Kia Cars & Trucks - Popular Questions, Answers, Tips & Manuals

i don't know. here in Canada mine was below half and car
was not warm enough in winter. i put a new thermostat in
myself. now i have lots of heat and temperature is about
85 to 90 degrees celsius or about 3/4 on the gauge.
changing was a bit messy with having to catch antifreeze
etc. call parts store for price of thermostat. next ask a
few mechanics or places for an estimate. finally, you
make your choice. some engines are not easy to change.

I am thinking when they replaced your airbag light the other circuit connections could have been impacted. The Rios have issues with solder connections on the circuit board. This is made worse is high humidity areas. Try unplugging the battery and reconnecting after several minutes to see if the hard reset fixes temporarily.

Just my first thought. I would think the transmission might be slipping. Another thought if it has been setting a while wonder if you have brakes or emergency brake sticking. If they were sticking all the time you would be able to smell them. Maybe just sticking and release when the car gets moving. I know if transmission fluid is low it will cause them to slip also.

I will say I have never had a kia and the vehicle I know of say the transmission oil should be at a certain temperature to check level under the car on sealed transmission..(because oil expands at higher temparature.) The way I have seen you have to add fluid under the car also. So Kia is somewhat different.

I think you have little choice but to try and remove the steering/ignition lock barrel - most are removable in position 1.

Unfortunately it would mean removing the column shroud and finding the release hole and poking a thick piece of wire into it. Once removed everything can be realigned and refitted. Sorry can't think of anything simpler.

Usually when batteries act like this it primarily has to do with the alternator not providing about 14vdc to the battery and not keeping it charged. Doing a quick charge usually does not do much of anything. Do you drive the vehicle often? Did it start at the change to cold weather? Your battery may need a full charge. You can take it to an auto parts store and they can do a free analysis for you. Did you buy the right battery for the car? If you bought one that did not have enough CCA (cold cranking amps) they will die quickly. Doing a full charge on a battery takes hours. A trickle charge will not do it. Have the battery tested is the best course of action. If it tests okay, then do a full charge.

I don't know - cooling system capacity will be listed in the vehicle handbook, most technical data books and antifreeze supplier application catalogues.

The antifreeze quantity will depend on what percentage solution you decide to use.
These days the pink or red propylene glycol antifreeze has a longer life and superior performance especially as a corrosion inhibitor if used at least 40% solution with boiled, deionised or distilled water - 50%-60% is best...
