Put a resistor across the connector leads of the old motor. Something about 1 Watt and about 20 Ohms. This should remedy it- it will look like a motor winding to the onboard diagnostic computer.

Sounds like a faulty starter solenoid or bad starter.Take a hammer and tap on the center of the starter housing while someone else tries to start it.If it starts then its your starters bendix that is bad in the starter. Make sure your wheels are chocked.

There is almost certainly an alternative. The buyer's guide of some of the old fashioned catalogues such as still might be found under the counter of an aftermarket motor factor contained diagrams of cables with the dimensions.
There is a fairly limited number of cable ends in common use and lots of vehicles used cable clutches over several decades.

In the past lots of towns and cities contained small businesses that would make all manner of things from speedo and throttle cables to new radiators or hydraulic pipes. If your outer cable is in reasonable condition, such a business would be able to make a new inner.

Finally there is a network of vehicle breakers connected by the internet where used parts might be obtained.

A common cause is a build up of leaves and other detritus blocking the heater air intake drains so the rainwater level rises in the airbox until it flows through the heater into the car.

Certainly the first thing to check - often means removing the wiper arms and the grille at the base of the windscreen for access...

Check the windshield seal and clean the front right under the windshield. There are usually drain holes for rain water to drain away. If you are getting wet without rain, your AC drip pan drain is probably plugged and needs to be cleared out.

The fault could be the Glowplug Relay, located at the back of the Engine bay Fusebox, from what I have seen there is not actually a fuse for the glowplugs,as the relay is self fused.

1 amp is not much for a battery that can produce 500 to 700 CCAs. That power is keeping the vehicle's computer active when the engine is not running.
