there are 4 torx T-15 screws, one in the rear map pocket, one under the air bag logo plastic clip, one under the wood trim (pry the trim off carefully), and one holding the door handle assembly (also revealed when you remove the wood burl cover). Pick up a pry tool at autozone, about 5 bucks to pry the clips out without breaking

Hello, I've the same problem... however my sound is likely there when I restart the X5 after an hour or so, but it is as likely to disappear during the minutes that follow, often when the car is shaken.

There is then a fair chance to get sound back as soon I drop the phone after a phone call (but it does not always work).

--> My guess is that it is the line of the Phone "mute" signal that brings every sound source down thru a bad contact or so.

BMW wanted to replace the radio for 900 €. Hmm a lot of money for a bad conatct if my guess is right.

My car is not accelerating when I depress the gas pedal

If I slow down then press the gas hard to accelerate , it seems like the the gas is choking the engine. The car idles but studders when I attempt to accelerate. If I turn the ignition off then on, it fixes itself but not all the time. Is this a sensor or is the fuel octane level of 89 too low for this engine?

Its not entirely possible that a low octane level is causing your problem. But highly unlikely. More likely a problem with the fuel delivery sytem of some kind. Possibly a sensor, fuel pump/pressure or a leak (vac/fuel/air) if your getting a engine management light get someone to throw a scanner on it and see if you have any codes that may tell you the problem or give you some clues from the data. Most independants have scanners of some kind now so you dont have to go to bmw. Cost usualy £30 to £70. Have a look round under the bonnet check your vac hosses intake pipes for air leaks or cracks that could be letting in air and giving false readings to maf/map etc. Check plugs to sensors, never rule out the simple stuff. : )

2001 BMW 525I Heater/AC Blower-Fan Motor not pushing out air

I bought a new battery two weeks ago. The old one was a mere year and a half old. I've heard stories about 525 heaters draining batteries. This is sort of a seperate issue from my main complaint/discrepency.
When I turn either the AC or heater on, I get no circulatory air from vents no matter what amplification of fan adjustment setting (button on dash that turns fan faster or slower). I checked fuse box in glove box where the heater fuse (fuse slot #76 that is a 40amp fuse according to fuse call out card) the visible fuses sequentially go from 1-25. #75 is Auxillary Fan Fuse (50 amp) Neither 75 or 76 are present. I checked the trunk's right side fuse panel also (no such luck) If it's not a fuse, what could it be? Perhaps a blown heater/AC fan motor? Any help or ideas are appreciated!!!!!!!!!

hedgehog is a final stage unit located on passenger side deep behind the radio. Replace my batt before fiding the post. did my self and part cost about 70.00 bucks but area is very tight. The fuses 75 and 76 are located behind the glove box and very difficult to get to and see. I am trying to find the solution to that as we speak.

Have replaced ABS module on bmw 525 E39 and ABS

Have replaced ABS module on bmw 525 E39 and ABS now ok, but the ASC lamp will not go off on the dash and fault code 23 (incorrect coding) will not clear from system? Everyone told us the ABS ecu does not need coding? ? Any ideas please

ABS/ASC module is faulty
CLASSIC ABS FAILURE SYMPTOMS:
- Most of the time, the problem is the ABS module or one of the 4 wheel speed sensors (& sometimes the brake pressure sensor)
- In my 2002 BMW E39 DSC, three orange (warning) cluster display lights lit, ABS, Brake, & DSC
- The 3 warning lights reset when the ignition is turned off, only to repeatedly reappear within minutes of normal driving
- The fault is often intermittent leading you to falsely believe you've resolved the problem (proper diagnosis is important)
- Sometimes the fault only appears when the engine is hot; other times only at speeds over 40 mph
- Carsoft may erroneously show a rear speed sensor failure; but just replacing the speed sensor may make no difference.
- All the work is in correct diagnosis of the problem; parts replacement is trivial (from 1 to six bolts in a few minutes)
- Hence, this BMW E39 ABS 3-warning light DIY will concentrate on understanding and diagnosis of the problem

You might want to suspect a stereo amplifier. Does your car have DSP? In any case, look in the trunk on the left hand side. You will find your radio amplifier back there. It will have about a 3in connector with a bunch of twisted pair wiring. Remove the connector and make sure there is no water contamination. All sound processing takes place in the amp.

how to fix code P0604??

It's an internal control module random access memory error code. It has likely been triggered bacause your ECM has detected a memory fault or error. Check the fuse for the ECM to make sure that it hasn't blown. Also you may want to check the wire harness to ensure that its fully depressed into position on the ECM. Other than that you're probably looking at dealer service.

Hi Lisa!
This possibly is a immobilizer fault and I would be looking at the Fob/Zapper. The way the immobilizer works is to disable the starter and ignition system.
These fobs have batteries so try replacing them, if you still have the same grief it may need re-coding.
Phone or pop into your local BMW dealer with the Log book/title and ask for their assistance, It shouldn't be expensive unless the vehicle needs to towed/trailered but I'm sure a Girley smile should persuade someone to visit you at home to code the fob to the car.
Hope this FixYa's problem!

right i had this ***** of a problem 2nd week in jan 2010. a bmw mechanic told to jack car up at front and hook a jumper pack up to live on starter motor terminal and then earth, was quite hard to put croc clip on to starter but did manage it. this was supposed to back charge to battery to get enough power to open car with remote, in theory it should of worked but i gave up after 3 hours-no power. so i got my key put it in drivers door and mechanically turned to open position, then i got a cutlery knife from kitchen and wrapped some insulation tape around tip up 2-3 inches. then i pushed this down glass directly above door handle key end to pry a gap between glass and rubber just enough to slide coat hanger wire in with small hook on end then i manouvered wire hook until i hooked latch arm which i did within 1 minute pulled coathanger wire up and pulled door handle the door opened much to my delight. this was a major sigh of relief after trying for 2 days to get in, and many hours searching the net for a solution which i couldnt find. THIS WORKS 100 percent WITH ABSOLUTELY NO DAMAGE!!!!!!! any questions email me- jimanddiane@live.co.uk
