Try stepping on the brake when trying to shift with the key on. Then try starting im neutral or other gears to see if the neutral safety switch is bad in park. You may have a bad wire from the battery to power distrubution or bad ground. So many things it could be.

Below are some diagrams for you. If you have the XL model there it will be different for the rear passenger compartment fuse panel which I did not include. I did include if you had a 6 or 8 cylinder engine for the under the hood fuse panel because there is a difference. This should be in your owners manual if you have one. If you do not and would like a copy, you can email me at csautomotivecars@att.net with your make, model and year and I will be happy to email you a copy. I hope this helps and good luck.

Temperature blend door actuator is probably stuck on heat position , needs replacing more then likely. Videos on youtube showing how to replace it .
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4wPg6uJCNcs

Now as far as it shutting down , that could be any number of thing's , could cost a lot of time an money tracking that down . It would be best if when it shut off it wouldn't restart ,easier to fix that way .

I also have a 2004 GMC XUV. My gate would go down but not swing open. In trying to fix it, the gate then refused to go to the flat position.I have removed the cover plate on the gate and found the one of the solenoids loose from its mounting. Resetting the computer by disconnecting both battery leads and holding them together for ten seconds worked to restore function to the gate going flat, but the swing still does not work. I believe it is a bad solenoid or motor for the bottem left latch pin.

Rule one thing out.... make sure you're coolant reservoir is full

The compressor has a thermal switch, if it gets too hot in the engine bay, will turn off, then back on when it's cooled off.

Make sure the pigtail isn't melted also, very common for the pigtail plastic to melt on the inside and short out. When replacing the module or resistor, always replace the pigtail that goes into it. Common for it to melt.

Test fuel pressure and volume of delivery. Running out of fuel can damage the fuel pump.

Could be a lot of things (sensors like the MAF, EGR, etc) but I would first check the throttle position sensor (TPS).

There are two different ones. One for manual controls called blower motor resistor, and one for automatic controls (digital), called blower motor module. Look similar, but different.
