On my 2010 ford escape XLT i found the keyless entry code printed on a label on the smart junction box which is inside the center console. To get to the smart junction box follow these instructions.
1. with a non-marring tool(i used a putty knike wrapped in plastic wrap), pry up the chrome trim piece around the shifter.
2. Remove the storage tray from underneath the center console armrest and leave the armrest cover open.
3. Grab the center console finish panel near the cupholders and pull straight up.
4. Pull the finish panel up and back then set it aside.
5. The smart junction box is to the right and slightly ahead of the gear shifter. There should be a label with a bar code that says FoMoCo. In the corner of this label is a 5 digit number. This is the factory code.
Hope this helps.

Where is the factory preset code for keyless entry on a 2012 ford escape located?

The original door code was indeed on a card with the owners manual. If that is gone, the door code is on a module inside the center console on 2008-2012 Ford Escapes. There is a discussion with pictures at one of the Escape forums:

I had to find my code on my 2012 Escape.

Entry code 2011 ford escape

Go to a dealer with your VIN# & proof of ownership

They will give you the factory code that was on a card,
when new & should have been passed along

You can then, using your owners manual, change the code

No owners manual---Buy one at Helm.Com

If I bought my 99 ford expedition used is there a wAy to find out or reset the code for the door keypad lock

There is a way to reset it but unfortunately if you don't have the original code that won't help you as it resets itself to the factory code. Take it to a Ford dealership, they can hook up their computer and pull the code. Once you have the factory keyless entry code you can program your own into it. Our shop charges 0.5 hours labor time to do this and any other shop really shouldn't charge more than that.

I bought a used 2008 ford escape. No owners manual. How do I reset the keyless entry. I don't know the original code.

did you mean the key pad on the door? if it is then you need to track down the original owner to give you the factory code then you can program up to 3 codes.
give the local dealer a call to see if they can run the VIN number for a factory code, they may charge you a fee.
if you bought it from a dealer then they must take care of that for you at no charge.
otherwise you will need to replace the key pad.
