Just some food for though the Mercedes is notorious for having lighting issues. My mom has an slk and her tail lights were going out along with the brake lamp. She was about to go purchase the housing for both rear lights and brake lamp. Checked all fuses they were good she bought new bulbs and nothing. For some reason Mercedes ground on tail lights and brake lamp are on a flat aluminum like piece goes around to each bulb. That flat ground is so dull after so much heat it may break along its path and not making circuit complete. Heres what I did here was broken on one side I took a very small piece of foil rolled it up and flattened it making sure it had cont on both sides **heres the magic ..I went to autozone and the sell these small packets of electrical grease or bulb grease costs you less than $6.00. Remove you brake lamp (I'd do all your rear lights) tear open package use a latex or rubber glove squeeze grease from packet onto your finger or ground track .spread this grease on entire ground track (the dull flat dry looking piece of metal.hold it up to.make sure grease is spread along entire ground track) you may want some one to step on the brake after applying bulb grease as they called it is at autozone. Put all your lights back on and Bingo. I'm almost 100 % that this will help with lighting issues that are causing bulbs to go out from getting too hot in some threads I was reading even the light cover was warping. Remember Mercedes lights in rear are self grounding that whole ground track is only make a ground when its put back and all the 8mm nuts are firmly on if your missing a nut then that cold be your problem also. We can get by with out a nut thinking well its holding up NO every nut presses the lights firmly to body which acts as a ground for the lights. Good luck

You must check the fuses under the steering wheel, or in the left side of the steering wheel.

SOURCE: license plate lamp alarm and

The pieces that you have mentioned that are not working are located at the rear and the wiring are at close proximity to each other. I suspect a loose ground wire somewhere. The ground wire should be secured to the body of the car. I would suggest to inspect the wiring in the trunk. You may have to removed the trimmings. If I recall correctly the wiring should be at the driver side of the trunk.

The plate lights are connected with the park lamp circuit and it is Possible that the GROUND connection to the ligh assembly has failed or it can be the lamp holder that has failed.

Where is the fuse for the license plate lamp located

I'll tell you where the fuse is but I want to mention that if it is just the license plate lamps that are out you may have other problems. The fuse you are looking for also controls the power to the left & right back up lamps, the right park & stop lamps and I think the left turn signal but don't quote me on that. So as you can see this fuse covers more then just the lamps for the license plate. Anyhow the fuse you are looking for is in the fuse box located to the left of the steering wheel by the brake pedel. It is in the number 7 position (see picture below) and is a 15 amp blue fuse. I hope this helped and good luck.

Tag light is not working. is there a fuse that will get the light turned back on?

The fuse labeled REAR PARK LP 15A in the right instrument panel fuse box powers the rear park lamps, and the tag lamps. If your rear park lamps are working then you most likely need to replace the tag lamps (bulbs). Use the following procedure to replace the lamps.

To Remove:
  1. Remove the two mounting screws from the license plate lamp.
  2. Remove the license plate lamp from the rear bumper fascia.
  3. Remove the license plate lamp socket by turning it counterclockwise.
To Install:
  1. Install the license plate lamp socket by turning it clockwise.
  2. Position the license plate lamp to the rear bumper fascia.
  3. Install the license plate lamp mounting screws.
