My Escort did something like that. It kept Idling real bad and had a hard time starting. I don't know if thats the same thing your experiencing, but I fixed it by replacing the PCV valve and cleaning the breather line.

i have the same probiem with my car.iv changed coil, plugs, timming belt, computer and fuel pump and still no go so i was just wondering what 2 circuits did u change.

  • Tina Skorik Sep 05, 2012

What two circuits?! I'm in the exact same boat.

  • natem Aug 01, 2013

I got the same issue. The problem is that the fuel air mix is off the circuits are controlled by the Mass Air Flow Sensor and the Idle Air Control Valve / sensor combo. The parts are about 100 bucks each. I recommend buying the cars manual Haynes #36020 it has helped a great deal. the hard part is cleaning all the carbon deposits out of the system.

you might want to look into cleaning your egr valve and tube as well cleaner is about 6 to 10 bucks pending were you get it. Throttle body / air intake cleaner also found cleaning your mass air sensor with mass air flow cleaner 7.98 at autozone may help before you drop a 100 on the replacement sensor.

98 ford escort zx2 dies when it drops below 1000 rpms

I doubt the two problems are related.
The computer uses an idle speed control valve to regulate idle speed. The valve controls the amount of air entering the intake.
You should have a check engine light on and also a stored trouble code for the valve. It could also be a problem with the throttle plate in the throttle body.

You haven't flooded the engine correct, check the spark plugs. Also, how fresh is the gas? Try shaking the car to get the gas mixed up and try cleaning out the cylinders with a torch to blow out excess gas. You should also either try cleaning the spark plugs or replace them if they look bad. It is starting up fine, correct? The alternator is good, right? I believe it is since it sounds like you didn't drive it long enough to drain the battery but check it anyway. By losing power, did the electronics start shutting off first or did the engine die first as this would show whether the alternator is bad or not. Please answer my questions and get back to me on what shut off first when it died and I will help you narrow down the problem with this car.

good luck

98 ford escort ZX2 After driving (20+ miles, usually)car 'acts up', as if gas not getting to it. If I let off gas, drops down to idle, give gas, seems ok for a moment, maybe a few mins. Has shyt-off...

Intermittent problems like yours are the hardest to diagnose. But if it is getting more frequent, at least, may be easier to find. I would start with a fuel pressure check, eliminate as many possibilities as possible. New fuel filter? Maybe a sensor when warmed up is ...well, that would probably register a trouble code. Just fishing, here, but it just possibly could be an ignition problem when warmed up will start mis-behaving- like a bad coil, or ignition module. Good luck.

91 ford escort. Just put gas in it for the first

fuel filter is under the car on the driver side about middle way back.....but there is a little nozzle on the fuel rail under the hood it looks like were u put air in a tire....get somthing and push it in after u try nd start it to see if there is gas coming through...if there aint u have a fuel pump reset button in the back of the car...but more then likley u r goin to have to replace the fuel pump if u aint getting gas to the fuel rail......

99 ford escort zx2 wont start it died seemed like it was outta gas but has gas

When you turn the key to the ON position, you should hear the whirring of the fuel pump working. If you don't hear anything it may be your fuel pump. It only lasts a few seconds but that sound is evidence that your fuel pump is delivering fuel. If it is good, then check your fuel filter.

I have a 1999 ZX2 ford escort that starts, but dies in seconds

It is was a gas filter problem blocking gas flowing from the pump. What happening was that when it was trying to **** the last drop of gas into the engine it really disturbed dirts inside the fuel filter and made it clogged at fine mesh. And also make sure give sometime for gas delivered into the fuel line it since it was empty when you change the fuel filter. It means you have to keep starting for a while so gas can go up to the fuel distributor then injectors.
