2005 explorer sport trac instrument cluster and odometer intermittent failure?

All gauges and odometer will intermittently fail. If I slap the top of the dash board hard they will temporarilly come back on. Sometimes, if I push the odometer reset button, they will work temporarilly. I'm thinking..... instrument circut board. When I do the odometer button test all of the gauges sweep properly. All other electrical components work properly, door locks, panel lights, heater, a/c, etc.

Pull the instrument cluster out of the dash check all the connectors to it for loose pins and also take a look at the printed circuit on the back of the panel, look for any obvious problems. More than likely just pulling the connectors and reinserting them several times may cure this problem.

SOURCE: Odometer only works at night

THE PROBLEM IS A BAD OR SHORTED PINS OR CHIP, SO YOUR BEST BET IS THAT, TO REPLACE THE CLUSTER, SORRY.
ALL NEW CLUSTERS ARE ELECTRICAL NOW.
WHAT YOU CAN TRY IS TAKE THE CLUSTER OUT AND LOOK FOR ANY BLOWN RESISTOR OR METAL CARRIER.
IF IT WORKS AT NIGHT THE LIGHT SWITCH IS SENDING THE POWER TO THE UNIT. AT DAY TIME ANOTHER SOURCE IS SENDING POWER TO IT. SO THAT CHANNEL MAY BE BLOWN.

SOURCE: Instrument cluster failure causes fuse #29 to blow.

ok it could be quite simple
lets look at wrong size fuse
example 15 and you need a 25 fuse
also if you did any work on vehicle its quite possible that you grounded something out wrong retrace your work and fix accordingly
bad cluster relay is another problem that would cause these problems

SOURCE: 2005 Sport Trac Cruise Control does not engage

If you can please look under the hood and find the Air filter, and follow that all the way to a round metal part (Throttle body) If you can see it there will be a coil, and on that coid will extrude a curved plate with a cable(throttle cable) attached to it running all the way back inward toward the back of the engine, and next to that there should be a second cable (crusie control cable). This cable is pulled on when you engage the cruise control, by a black box next to the fuse box.
If the Cruise control cable is near by try to reattach it and if it is damaged then have your dealership or some one mechanically inclinded to replace the tip ( if plastic) or replace the cable.
If that didnt help please get back to me

SOURCE: 1998 Ford Explorer a/c not working properly

Had the same problem on 98 Eddy Bauer we have. Have you noticed that it has a tendency to belch out hot air and the blower speed slows down mostly when you accelerate or give it a little more gas to climb a hill or an overpass or even pass somebody? If this is the case there is a pressure switch that's hooked into the intake manifold were it can sense a drop in pressure and when it does it drops the ac clutch out and slows the dash blower down till the pressure comes back up. JUMP IT OUT. All your problems will go away. Thats in there to unload the engine during acceleration and heavy loads and after the switch ages it gets trigger happy and lazy about closing to bring the ac back on.

You can try doing a re-calibration of the cluster. To do that.....
Begin the test with the ignition switch in the OFF position. 2. Depress the odometer/trip odometer switch button. 3. While still holding the odometer/trip odometer switch button depressed, turn the ignition switch to the ON position, but do not start the engine. 4. Release the odometer/trip odometer switch button. 5. The instrument cluster will simultaneously begin to illuminate all of the operational segments in the VFD units, and perform a bulb check of each operational LED indicator. The VFD segments and LED indicators remain illuminated as each gauge needle is swept to several calibration points and back. If a VFD segment or an LED indicator fails to illuminate, or if a gauge needle fails to sweep through the calibration points and back during this test, the instrument cluster must be replaced. 6. The actuator test is now completed. The instrument cluster will automatically exit the self-diagnostic mode and return to normal operation at the completion of the test.

Cluster panel lights on 2005 ford freestar goes off and comes back on no problem with engine etc why

Pull the fuse and put it back in, first. Then pull the plug on the back of the IP and put it back in. It is intermittent. These will usually fix the problem... Corrosion.

I have a 2004 chevy Silverado 2500 HD and I got a odometer error message in my instrument cluster. Is this from the instrument recall from way back? Front left window switch works intermittently also.

Disconnecting the battery isn't going to change anything . You have a hard fault . The IPC calculates the mileage based on the vehicle speed signal circuit from the powertrain control module (PCM). The odometer will display 'error' if an internal IPC memory failure is detected. IPC- instrument panel cluster ! Is the odometer inoperative ?

I'm having about the same issue. I've traced it to a problem behind the instrument panel/cluster. You will need to or have a mechanic pull the instrument panel and check to see what is causing the gauges to malfunction. I can tap on the instrument panel and everything comes back. There is a short of some sort. When I find out more, I'll post. Good luck

The gauge fuel and odometer no work

elinmorta16: Is this problem intermittent, did it come on progressively, getting worse each time, or has it been resolved? I'm assuming it's a 1998 Voyager. I would first and foremost suspect the instrument cluster main harness solder joints. I had a similar problem that eventually caused vehicle to fail to start altogether. After reviewing several posts about it I decided to re-solder all these joints. This didn't initially resolve the no start problem ---- UNTIL ---- I did the instrument cluster self-diagnosis test. With ignition off, hold the trip meter and reset buttons for 10 or more seconds. When I turned the ignition to on, I got the self check sequence displaying on the odometer. After it completed, my dash gauges worked just fine......and the vehicle started again!!

To find the instrument cluster fix, google "1998 voyager instrument cluster solder". You should find several posts explaining it. It eventually worked for me!! God bless those who take the time to help others!

1999 dodge caravan intermittent instrument cluster

This Seems Indicative Of a Poor Connection AT The CLUSTER Or A Junction Connecter Close to the Cluster. This is Assuming you Have Ruled OUT ALL ABS COMPONENTS, LOOK at These VERY CLOSLY Because of the Small Volts These Wires Carry , the SMALLEST DEFECT WILL Cause this Type of Symptom that you have given. Please try all of the Above, I feel Confedint that athis is where your Problem Is.

This is if the cluster lighting still works, but the display is blank. Don't know if you mean the gauges in the cluster do not work.
