Open Question

Brakes appear to be dragging on all 4 wheels. The drums and rotors run very hot and get hotter the faster you drive while not using the brakes. any help appreciated. 2012 silverato

My gas highway gas milage is also low.

It should just pull off once you have taken the caliper off. It may be seized in place, if thats the case try spraying the back of it with some sort of penetrating oil, let it sit for a bit. THen put some heat on it if you have torches, or beat it with a hammer. Sounds kind of crude...but it works

Check the vacuum line to the fuel pressure regulator and check to see if the fuel pressure regulator has gone bad. Give the throttle body a good cleaning and the injectors too. Do not use carb cleaner, it's to corrosive for the gaskets used in the throttle body. The other thing too that would cause this is a stuck or bad EGR valve, Try cleaning the EGR valve too since your cleaning the throttle body. Good luck and keep me posted.

This is most likely caused by the caliper sticking making the brake pads continuously rub the rotor. I would recommend changing the caliper. If that does not fix your problem the next step is the master cylinder not releasing the brake caliper. If this is the case it will need to be replaced.

i would start with checking the axles because most of them have a abs ring on them which will trigger the abs light. also make sure your axles are in good shape. last resort would be that you need new tires because the steel bands inside are starting to seperate. good luck

I HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM I'VE BEEN DOING A LOT OF RESEARCH ON IT AND I THINK ITS GONNA BE THE BUSHINGS IN THE REAR KNUCKLE ASSEMBLY AND YOUR HAVE TO CHANGE THE WHOLE ASSEMBLY. I HAVEN'T TRIED IT YET BUT IF YOU CHECK BACK IN A COUPLE DAYS I WILL LET YOU KNOW

Why do the rear wheels get very hot at hwy speed after only 20 mi?


Replace the rear brake hose/s. They deteriorate on the inside and clog up. Not letting the calipers or cylinders to release. I recommend replacing the front and rear.

Lift the front of your Ford F-250 off of the ground using a jack and jack stands. Remove the wheels from the Ford with a lug nut wrench to prepare the truck for servicing. 2 Open the hood on the engine compartment and take the lid off of the master cylinder that bolts to the brake assister on the driver's side firewall.3 Remove the hex-head bolts on the back of the brake caliper with a socket. With the bolts removed, pull the caliper off of the Ford's brake rotor.4 Pull the old brake pads out of the caliper and discard them. Squeeze the brake piston back into the backside brake caliper with pliers, and then insert the new pads into the brake caliper.5 Pull the rotor cap cover off the middle of the rotor with a screwdriver and use a socket to remove the nut located behind the cover.6 Pull the rotor off of the wheel spindle.7 Remove the old wheel bearings from the brake rotor and insert them into the new rotor. If the old wheel bearings are worn, replace them with new bearings.8 Slide the new rotor onto the wheel spindle and secure it using a bolt and socket. After you tighten the bolt, press the cover back onto the rotor.9 Place the caliper on the rotor and secure it with a socket and hex-head bolts. 10 Duplicate the process on the passenger side of the F-250. 11 Close the master cylinder after putting the wheels back on the Ford and lowering it to the ground. Press on the brake pedal to seat the pads against the rotor
Replace the F-250's Rear Brakes 1 lift the rear of the Ford F-250 off the ground with a jack and jack stands. Remove the wheels from the Ford with a lug nut wrench.2 Place a strip of paint on the back of the brake drum and rear brake drum cover so you can position the brake drum orrectly when you put it back on. If you plan to install new brake drums on your Ford F-250, skip this step. 3 Place the brake drum puller on the brake drum and pull the drum from the wheel hub. The method for attaching the brake drum puller depends on the brake drum puller that you use. 4 Remove the springs that attach the brake shoes to the wheel hub by pulling them off with pliers.5 Lift the old brake shoes off of the wheel hub and place the new brake shoes on the wheel hub. Secure the new shoes with the springs.6 Pound the brake drum onto the axle hub with a rubber mallet.7 Duplicate the process on the passenger side of the Ford.8 Put the wheels back on the F-250, lower it to the ground and, then press on the brake pedal to seat the shoes against the brake drum.

I got new ball joints(lower), new brakes (rotor, pads) and new tires but still front wheel keeps dragging at 60-80 kph. What's wrong?


It could be the brake hoses goig the the calipers. They deteriorate from the inside and swell Because you have several thousand pounds of pressure when you push the brakes the fluid will compress the calipers. But the hoses wont let them decompress, holding the brake pads to the rotors. This will cause a drag. And the hotter they get the worse the drag.

My car wheel is getting hot what is the reason?


A dragging brake shoe or pad is the usual cause of this symptom. Inspect the brake for contact with the rotor or drum. If a drum brake, back off the self adjuster. If a disk brake, check to see if the caliper piston will retract. You can use a small screwdriver between the rotor and the rear pad to gently pry the pad back. If ir is difficult to pry back, replace the brake caliper and bleed the brake line. If you have more questions or need further instructions, please let us know.

2003 Envoy SLT V8--How can I adjust the parking brake? recently replaced per dealer cable and was very tight, then back at dealer for rotors ,E-brake then very loose. Back to dealer for adjustment=a little...


The parking brake on your envoy is like a small set of drum brakes mounted inside the "hat" of your rear rotors. To adjust it, remove the rear wheels and remove the rubber cap on the rotor. If you don't have a rubber cap look at the brake backing plate and look for an access plug. Rotate the rotor and look inside towards the top or bottom for a star wheel. Rotate the star wheel like you would if you were adjusting drum brakes. You want a very small amount of drag on the rotor while rotating it. If you get too much drag, rotate the star wheel the opposite direction.

After new pads and rotors installed, dragging


If the "dragging" is a noise then you will need to verify that the anti rattle clips are not contacting the rotor, ensure that the pads are oriented properly, and check the caliper bolts and mount bracket bolts for proper torque. If the dragging is a pull or holding brake then you will want to make sure that one of the calipers is not sticking, this is usually made more obvious by one brake set being much hotter than the others after driving. If you can get it to stick, raise the suspected wheel just enough to attempt to turn it. If it is sticking, loosen the bleeder valve and see if the wheel frees up. If it does not then the problem is with the caliper. If it does, then a component further up the system is holding hydraulic pressure on the brake caliper. Contiue to work your way toward the master cylinder loosening connections until the wheel frees up. The point at which it does will tell you where your problem lies.
Most commonly I run into the caliper sticking. Pushing the piston in to accomodate the new thicker pads causes the piston to ride the internal seals in a different place that may be rusted, pitted, or just dirty. Once you find your issue. Make sure that you flush the ENTIRE brake system with new fluid and bleed out all air in the system.

One brake rotor gets very hot after 30 miles


on the wheel that is hot, jack it up and see it the wheel spins free or drags? if it drags, then loosen bleeder on the caliper, it if now spins free, you want to replace that caliper hose, if it is still dragging, then the caliper piston is stuck and you will need to replace it.

Put new cliper brake then 3 mile rotor make hot why


Under normal use, rotors get hot, espcially in stop-and-go traffic.  Is the rotor hotter than others?  Don't touch them!  If the rotor is hotter than the others, then the pads are dragging.  If you did the work, re-check that caliper.  If not, take it back where you had the work done.
