Question about 2003 Mitsubishi Lancer
I replaced the clutch and slave cylinder on an 03 Lancer SOHC and the car started one day, but not the next. Now, before I replaced the clutch the guy had to start his car in gear because the clutch plate was broken (the spring was bouncing around inbetween the clutch and pressure plate). So what is wrong with this thing? I have spark, but it is abnormal, I have plugs soaked in fuel, my timing is dead on, and I have air. When I crank the car it will want to start, but then suddenly die (voltage drops to 3-5 volts, dash goes out, and car chokes). When I unplug the crank sensor though, this problem goes away, but obviously wont start because there is no spark.

Code p0420 is 'catalyst efficiency below threshold'.
This could be caused by a bad catalytic converter but before dumping a ton of money on that I would suspect the after-cat oxygen sensor is getting lazy and setting the code.
Have the O2 sensors checked and replace if needed before suspecting the catalytic converter.
