It could be fuel pump on its way out. Had similar syptoms volts say nothing its the presure test on fuel that would confirm that. Apparrently should never let fuel below 1/4 tank as pump is cooled by the gas. Do not buy cheap after market pump as you will be doing it twice like I did.

i had the same problem itrs your crank position sensor i guarantee it

To candctruckin: I agree that is the suspect problem. I do not understand how this happens with the delay in time almost like it just has to cool down. Is PN# 0021539228 the right part number, and will a Standard Motor Products # PC393 work? Your help is greatly appreciated.

We have replaced everything in the electrical (including ECM), Fuel, and Emissions systems except the fuel pump relay, and the crankshaft sensor. We are leaning to replacing the fuel pump relay, and possibly the fuel shut off valve if it has one. Trouble: Vehicle runs and drives great until it warms up and then it just shuts off with no warning. Wait an hour and a half to two hours and then if will start and run. Then when it warms up it dies. Nothing so far has made a difference. Any suggestions?

candctruckin: I agree that could well be the problem. ?Why or how?

Is PN# 0021539228 the right part, and will Standard Motor Prouducts PN# PC393 work as well? Can you tell me where it is located. I have two conflicting stories. One says the it is located on the bell housing behind the oil filter (Tech says it is not) and the Tech says it appears to be on the drivers side of the bell housing. Any help?

2001 ford f150 v8 had problems with intermittent engine shutdown. After letting it sit for half to hour half it would start up. Replaced the fuel and pcm relays, the fuel filter and the fuel pump.

Replaced the fuel and pcm relays, the fuel filter and the fuel pump.????? Your guessing not testing . Did you do fuel pump pressure an flow testing before replacing those parts . How about fuel pump voltage drop testing ?

Testing Electric Fuel Pump Problems with Voltage Drop Test

Besides it doesn't sound like a fuel pump problem ,sounds like electrical problem or electronic problem . What's missing after it shuts down ? Spark or fuel . Testing an not guessing is the key to finding the problem . Hooking up a factory or professional type scan tool to view engine sensor data parameters an checking to factory spes.

1995 trans sport van new fuel pump, won't start

If the pump continued to run after shutting off the car you fuel pump relay was probably staying latched. I would replace the relay as well based on your info. Along with the pump the fuel filter should be replaced too and fuel pressure should be checked. Make sure your ground is good also.

Engine shuts down

The only way to know for sure is to hook a gauge to the rail and check the fuel pressure when it won't start.
Sitting for a few minutes and restarting is normally a sign of a relay or coil cooling off.
There should be a EEC relay that powers the dist module and ECM.
I know you said you have spark, but it could be something else
Also, if you have spark at the right time and no fuel pressure, you should be able to use starting fluid to substitute.
I don't suppose you have dual tanks and the switching valve is the problem ?

Have 1987 chevy pickup truck not getting fuel to the TBI unit. when you turn ignitionkey to "on" pump starts to pump fuel, and will start to run but shuts off after 2 to 3 second or so. Even...

Kent, That sounds like normal operation.....see this link ( The ECM shuts the pump down if the engine doesn't begin running in two seconds. I would bleed out the fuel line up to the TBI...crack the line at the TBI then cycle the key a couple of times until you see gas coming out of the line at the TBI. That will ensure you have fuel at the TBI, then try to start the engine. See the link for additional info.

After a half hour drive my car shuts down turns right back one ,,but will keep shutting off, feels like its not getting gas, already change the fuel filter check the fuel pump presure is fine whats next

Possibly the coil module under the coil packs gets hot and shorts out because it's on the engine, ( dumb design). I have seen that happen many of times.

Fuel pump relay

If this happens every time you start your truck and it shuts off the same each time, you just might have a dirty fuel filter only allowing so much gas pass through until it clogs once again. I once had a chevy van, when I would drive it, would go a few miles and engine would shut down.   I would wait 10 or 15 minutes, it would start up and allow me to drive a few more miles then shut down again.  I changed the fuel filter, It was fine after that.
