Question about 1993 Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme

93 Oldsmobile turns over but won't crank, I can hear the fuel pump come on.

    I'm not sure about mileage\car, but check your timing belt. If the timing belt is broke, no signal is sent from the cam, so you will get no spark. It will also usually turn over faster than it normally would when you turn the key.

    first of all check to see if your getting spark from your #1 plug wire if so that you getting spark then now grab a small sqewdriver and there should be a fuel valve on top of the fuel rail facing towards you on the top part of the engine remove the valve cap and turn your key on in the run posion then take the screwdriver and push down on that little valve to see if your getting fuel might be a little fuel with air comming out then no fuel if this is a steady fuel stream then your good if not it little fuel and with air blowing out replace your fuel pump then your engine will start

    also check your engine cam sensor make sure its plug in correctly or could be bad will prevent you from starting engine ok

The engine turns over but will not start

Guess you don't know what cranking is?

Hearing the fuel pump & having fuel pressure
at the motor are two different things

How about spark while cranking?

Have to actually start testing things you need
to have a car start

check for a good spark first, if there is none look at ignition circuits its more likley this part,
it could also be the car alarm the immobiliser shutting of the ignition ""stops it getting nicked?"
try resetting the alarm if you take off pipe to carb and there is fule pumping out!!! fule filter is "ok" for starting up on!!! take care working with fule!

A vehicle needs fuel and spark to run. If the vehicle isn't running, then it is not getting either fuel or spark. You can use a test light or spark tester to check for spark. The spark plugs attach to plug wires. The wires attach to coil packs which is mounted on ignition module. The module has wires that go to crank shaft position sensor which provides power for the spark. You can test sensor with an ohmmeter to see if there is resistance. If not, it needs to be replaced.

Fuel is from fuel pump, through fuel filter and through fuel pressure regulator to fuel rail, then to the injectors.
On the fuel rail, there is a test port, You can place a rag over the test port and press the valve in. There should be lots of fuel pressure. Or you can use fuel pressure tester.
Also, when you turn key to ON position, you should hear the pump turn on for a few seconds. If you cannot hear it, then check the relay with an ohmmeter to see if it is good. You can use a voltmeter and check power to the relay and to the pump as well. Check fuses if needed.

The first thing you should do, is check for battery power and ensure your instrument cluster lights come on when you turn your key to ON.

It's possible you have an issue with your starter motor, ignition switch or even the crank/cam sensor.

Have your diagnostic codes read by your local dealership or a mobile auto electrician, as this should immediately identify where the problem lies.

GMC 2000 sierra pick up 1500 sounds like it wants to start but won't turn over. Battery sounds good so I guess battery and alternator are ok. For several years fuel gauge doesn't work and...


It sure could be. But, first...by "won't turn over" you do mean it cranks at normal speed but won't start?
A simple test of the fuel pump is to stand by tank and listen as someone turns key to on. When first turned to on, your pump will activate for 2 or 3 seconds, pressurizing the fuel system, and then shut off if the engine computer doesn't get a cranking signal. Do you hear it come on? If not, then something's not turning your pump on. If you can hear it buzz on briefly, then maybe it's your filter. Another test: Spray a little starting fluid into your intake manifold (remove the big hose going into intake manifold) while someone tries starting it.If it doesn't fire and try to stay running, then it's probably an ignition problem. But if it does fire off, then you know it's a fuel problem-likely your pump or filter. good luck.

I was driving my 94 toyota p/u & it just died like it stopped getting gas. i think something may have come loose.any idea on what to check?


Check your battery and alternator connections for tightness. Does it crank over, but won't start? If it won't even crank over, then likely some connection did come loose, like an alternator connection, possibly your fusible link (near the battery).
If it does crank, but won;t start: You'll just have to start from scratch to find the problem. Try to determine if it's fuel or ignition-related. Check for spark at a plug wire. If you have spark, then ignition is not the problem. Check if your fuel pump works. When you turn key on, you should hear the pump buzz on for a couple of seconds. It should also be on when cranking and running, but you can only hear it, or should, when you first turn key to on. If your toyota has a schrader valve on the fuel rail (a valve for checking pressure-it looks like a typical air valve, like on your tire, but is for attaching a fuel pressure gauge) if it has one punch the center with a little screwdriver-gas should shoot out if you have any fuel pressure, If not, have your fuel pressure checked.good luck.

Afterhaving dead battery my 2006 honda civic ex engine won't start


check your fuel pump or your relay that controls the fuel pump if it turns over but cranks and cranks it's possible you aren't receiving gas . When you turn the key on you should hear the fuel pump pressurise if not i would check it first.

I had my spark plugs changed today and now my car won't start it will turn over but won't start


fuel problem or spark problem neither is associated with a change in sparkplug unless you had a sever misfire that you let go for a long time to cause thhe igition module to fail.and this include the crank sensor that is underneath the ignition module. cycle the key you should hear a humm at the fuel tank and that is the fuel pump working if you hear the fuel pump then more than likely you will need to correct for spark ignition module and crank sensor

I was driving and the car cut off. It won't start but it cranks and won't turn over.It is a 1995 Olds Cutlass Ciera SL, 6 Cylinder.


your terminology is wrong.if it cranks its turning over what you mean is it won`t start(fire up) as you said at the beginning.anyways it sounds like you could have a fuel pump problem that stop working.this happens alot.you should check for spark at the plugs to make sure its not an ignition problem.did you notice a check engine light on when it was running.if so there will be a code in the ecm and may be the cause of your problem.

Have a 97 grand am that cranks but wont start. changed the ignition switch. injectors are working and has spark to plugs. need help this is my only car


Do you hear the fuel pump make a whirrring sound when you turn the key to the on position ? You should be able to hear it. If not , the fuel **** is not working. Check the shutoff valve and see if the reset button is up. If it is up, press it down and try to hear the pump again when you turn the key to "on\'. If the shutoff is OK, but you don\'t hear the fuel pump. Replace the fuel pump.
