Question about 1990 Ford Ranger SuperCab

1990 ford ranger 2.3L running rough at idle and while driving

While I was driving my ranger it started running real rough. It set for about 2-3 hrs and started ok, then ran rough, then all of a sudden started running fine again. Went to drive it about 10hrs later it ran fine for about 15-20mins then started running rough again. Parked it and it idled really rough. checked for spark on one of the coil packs and 2 of the wires had spark and 2 didn't. Is this normal? Since this 4 cylinder has 8 plug wires,I wasn't able to get to the other coil pack to check it. Does anyone have any idea what could be causing this or what the solution is?

My 1990 ford ranger running rough obvious vacuum leak idles 7oo rpm and while in gear with the break on truck nearly dies but idles ok but not great in park

Use a length of rubber hose to listen around for the leak.
Or use some brakeclean or starting fluid to see where the leak is by it reving up. (stay away from the alternator).
Pinch off any vacuum hoses, one at a time, looking for one that makes a difference.

Engine rough idles and hesitate on take off after engine has reached normal operating temp.

Check the Catalytic Converter. When they start becoming plugged the insides expand as they heat up causing engine to act as if it is running out of fuel.

Ford ranger is running rough!

First Change the pluggs ( I really like the bosch platinum plus 2's ) wires and distributor with rotor if you have one. Next make sure the air filter is good, then take some carb cleaner and spray clean your throtle body till it is very clean. (at your own risk) try a product called SEAFOAM, you can watch on UTUBE how to use it. Also being that is a 1990 there could be some compression problems. get a tester and go to each plug whole and verify that your compression is good. I have heard people getting really good results from Marvel's mystery oil, and doing a soak of the pistons over night. You can look that up online aswell, I am assuming only that you have the ford 2.9 V6. It was never a power house to start with, but using a synthetic oil can help. Also when is the last time you changed the fluid and or filter in your transmission, using royal purple and a good filter can make a big difference in power distribution. change the fluid in the rear also.

Try this and let me know.

1990 ranger 2.3L runs rough.at idle and when cruising. good acceleration. changed out the obvious, plugs, cap, filters etc. no luck. runs fine for awhile with egr sensor disconnected than reconnected, but...

There will be an egr control solenoid that allows vacuum to reach the egr solenoid, sometimes it will be called the egr vent solenoid. It is probably bad.

1990 ford anger intermitant high idle

Try changing the throttle position sensor. It varies voltage to change rpm and if it is wet and shorted it will set maximum rpm.
