Why does my 97 Plymouth Voyager shuts down while driving after 20 mins then starts up again

While driving for about 20 mins it shuts down then starts up again. Replaced alternator, battery, output censor, speed censor and all 6 spark plugs, and still shuts down. Took it for a diagnostics check and came up with code P1698, what does this code mean?

SOURCE: What does the Diagnostic error

First, remove battery negative cable. Then I would remove kick panel (by right foot when sitting) on passenger side & locate BCM (body control module) . remove the harness connector to it & spray well with contact cleaner in connector & on module where they meet. Let it dry a bit, then re-connect it & re-connect negative battery terminal, and see if that helps. It's not unusual for these codes to come up & make one think that a part needs to be replaced, when it's just a bad connection.

I'd have fuel pressure checked, and at the very least, replace fuel filter. Not unusual to get multiple misfire codes due to low fuel pressure, thus starving cylinder(s), and causing the misfire code(s).

Well code 1698 means the engine computer could not communicate with the transmission control module. I doubt that would kill the engine, but there could be a wiring problem somewhere.
It could be a faulty relay too.

You need to do an OBD2 engine control module fault code test to see if the fault is recorded in the memory of the computer control module. Autozone and others do this testing for free.

If you knock gently under the fuel tank for about 5-6 times and then start your vehicle. If it starts, then 100% it is time to replace the fuel pump. Good luck.

I would start with checking the fuel filter. After taking it off try blowing through it. Should be very little resistance.

Sounds like the ECM is bad. This is a common problem, when the ECM gets hot there is a solder joint that seperates, it makes contact again once it cools down
