Question about Cars & Trucks

I'll guess crank sensor, most ecm's (engine computor modual) will alow initial eng start (as it searches for crank timing 1 revolution) faulty crank sensors heat up and loose continuity this kills the timing signal resulting stall sputter or no restart let it sit cools off restarts.
this should trip the engine light and store a code but not always
the cam sensor if you have one can do the same.
as for fuel filter unless super plugged would not show this way, pulgged filters restrict flow at speed .....you think your towing a trailer as you step on it
scan it or have it scanned dont get excited if multiple codes are showing like misfire , o2's , lean or rich they would be from the stall and sputter
good place to start

Need more specifics, does this happen when it is cold, hot, upon acceleration, at idle or what?

The only thing to do is get a diagram from the MAZDA dealer parts dept. "A few parts fell out" is way to vague to help you.

CHECK FUEL FILTER FIRST..YOUCAN HAVE PLENTY OF GAS AT IDLE AND SLOWER SPEEDS BUT NOT ENOUGH FOR FASTER SPEEDS..CHECK RUBBER HOSE TO TANK ,,IT MAY BE CRACKED..WON'T LEAK BUT PULLS IN AIR.

mcdevito75 here, It could be a dirty gas filter, weak fuel pump, fulty needle valve in the carb. Have your local shop check it out., Also could be a wek timeing chain.
