    1. A solar powered electric fence energizer usually contains a battery for energy storage. The solar panel collects the energy from the sun and charges the battery. Lead acid batteries, which are used in solar fence chargers, typically last around 3 years, or around 1,000 days of charging.

2004 pts cruiser starts only with trickle charger, and turn crank by wrench, have to tote charger with me

Start with the basics: (1) pull battery cables off the battery and clean them and the battery terminals (the grey color is corrosion that blocks current flow, use a battery terminal brush); (2) check battery voltage and charge battery if necessary (voltage on full charged battery is a bit over 12 volts); (3) hook battery cables back up. If the car starts, the only things left to do are check voltage while running (generator should be pushing about 14.5 volts) and recheck battery voltage again the next morning (should still be above 12 volts).

Is the charger to be "on" while charging it; then on while hooked to battery?

The portable charger should NOTE be connected to a battery while the battery is connected to a vehicle! Charge the battery off the car, then disconnect the charger and put the battery into the vehicle to start it! If the charger is not working check the fuse! If that is ok then probably damaged the circuitry!

Battery goes dead instantly

TAKE BATTERY TO AUTO PARTS STORE FOR A LOAD TEST PROCEDURE, MAKE SURE THE CASE IT IS PUT IN HAS THE DOOR CLOSED FOR YOUR SAFETY, BATTERIES SOMETIMES DO "EXPLODE" AND ACID FLYING IS NOT GOOD. IF BATTERY IS NOT GOOD, I WILL SUGGEST YOUR BUY AN AMPHOROUS SOLAR POWERED BATTERY CHARGING PANEL, THEY COST BOUT 30 BUCKS AND WILL KEEP YOUR BATTERY CHARGED UP OVER LONG PERIODS OF TIME.

When the weather is very cold (below zero) the car will not even try to turn over it wil only click at the starter and ignition no turn battery is fine never does this any other time. only cold, but once...

It is normal for batteries to lose a good deal of their power due to cold temperatures. If you want better starting power, try using a battery charger/maintainer overnight. It should charge at no more than 2 amps. The slow trickle charging overnight will charge and warm up the battery and allow it to develop full power for a cold morning start.

2006 Buick Lucerne/ 10 mo.dead battery told i need to put 1000 ml. a mo. to keep battery????

That is not necessarily correct-if the car sits all the time, parasitic drain on the battery will eventually kill even a new battery. Telling someone that a car has to be driven 1000 miles a month to maintain the battery is not a solution-if you don't drive alot, get a trickle charger ($good one is $30, one that works can be found for $10) that you can plug in and keep hooked up to the battery to keep it fresh. Another way is to get a solar panel charger (1 1/2 watt, about $20 at Harbor Freight) and put the panel on the dashboard, and the other end into the cigarette lighter socket in the dashboard. A third solution is to buy a deep cycle battery (Optima) that can be fully drained hundreds of times yet will recover and work properly-these are expensive ($175), but out perform conventional batteries that die if fully discharged a few times. You could also install a remote starter and periodically start the car, letting it run for 15 minutes-about $200

My battery went flat i recharged it but now it wont turnover and the central locking is not working

if you took the battery off the car to charge it up or it was realy flat then its the car alarm its lost its memory and is still "set on" reset the alarm and then try starting it up,,,all should be working ok then,,,if you leave the car standing for a long time,, buy yourself a solar charger,,, hook it to the car and that will keep the battery charged up,,,,, for free!!!!!!!!!

BATTERY KEEPS ON GOING DEAD AFTER IT SITS A WEEK HAVE A DRAIN FROM VAIROUS CIRCUITS ATC

the best way to test this is to take off the battery and let it stand for a time if the battery still gos flat its the battery its self,, if its good after a week or so use an avo meeter to find out how much of a leak you have got, if its only say about 100ma's or so its the alarm draining the battery any more than this look at the alternator this could be were the leak is draining back all cars leak a small amount of curent from the battery if left standing my 4x4 would have a flat battery in a month if i left it stood
the way to get around this is to get a 12 volt solar charger the bigest one you can get your hands on say at least 2.5 watt's there about £20
it only needs day light to charge the battery up but full sun light it better
plug it into the cigarette lighter socket and that will keep the battery charged up when you leave the moter standing around unused byt do take it off before you start the engine up or your going to cook the charger up,,my 4x4 never ever had a flat battery after i fitted a solar charger it was the best £20 i ever spent,, its now keeping my motor bike battery charged up!!!!!!!!

Electrical problem, battery drain.

Try to isolate the problem. If the current flow is between the fuse block and the window switch you may be grounding somewhere between. Next check the window switch. If there is current flow across the switch when not being used, replace the switch. There should be no current at the window motor until the switch is engaged. On the other hand, you could just buy one of those solar powered battery chargers for about $40 to keep the battery up and not worry about it until something fails.

Battery and cold storage of car for several months

a good battery will hold a charge through the winter if disconected from the vehicle adn left fully charged.
you may want to look into a battery monitoring charger, it is a trickle charger that is designed for long term use, it monitors battery volts and turns on when needed.

also put carpet squares or cardboard under the tires if you are parking on concreet. this will help prevent dry rot and flat spots

Solar battery charger

Yes, but the efficiency of solar cells is terrible. Its one thing to use free sunlught to charge the cells, its another to have to pay the electric company to do it. If you can access the batteries in the solar rig easily and they are in the correct voltage range, I think you would be better off getting a battery tender (trickle charger). Just let the van sit outside until the batteries are fully charged, then connect the battery tender to keep it fully charged.
