Question about Cars & Trucks
The check engine light comes on when diagnostic code or codes have been set. Use a scan tool to read the codes, or most parts stores will do this for you, free.

Go to Advance or Auto Zone and have them run an obd scan on it and it will pin point why your light is on and could solve your problem. This is often done for free.

on your filter, some place, there should be a small round, hard plastic, see through part. I can't remember what it's called. It has a small plastic hose coming out of each end. It's about the size of a cylinoid, same shape. It's about 30$ at the dealer. It has to do with your air transfer.

SOURCE: ETS OFF warning light and
The ETS light comes on usually in responce to a cooling system problem in Cavaliers. The first thing to do is check your fuses. The Check Engine light always comes on when the ETS light comes on. You need to be concerned with this ETS system first. Usually it is your 30 amp fuse that needs to be replaced. On most cav's the fuse box us under your hood, on the right hand side. There are two fuses that are for the coolent system. Check these fuses first. If the fuse is blown, change it and the dash light should go out. If the fuse blows in a week or so again, then try to read the codes like the guys above say. When the fuse it out, the code reader is just going to say that you need to check your fuse. This is what happened in my car, and my mechanic said it was pretty common in these cars. Good luck.

This problem seems to be the ECM (computer) to have so many things acting up at the same time. Did it all start at the same time? Its possible that you can reset the ECM by removing the hot and ground cables, wait about 15 minutes and then replace them, may fix the problem, may only temporarily fix the problem if the ecm is bad or something is setting a code to cause this. It sounds as if it is running in limp mode. Have it tested at the nearest parts store. They should be able to decipher the problem.
