It will more than likely be a sensor, I say more than likely as there was an upgrade to the model in 2005 , so would really need to get the OBD read this will identify which it is, hope this helps

Testimonial: "Hi Thanks, but its a 1984 Porsche 944 with speedo cable (mid 1985 they put in the sensor)to left front wheel (Like VW Beetle)no sensor or anything -all mechanical. It must be something simple (like me) but can't find any problems, all cable and fittings seem perfect. Can only think it might be something in the hub itself - but not sure what should be in there.... "

I think I need to change my speedo cable....not working....96 nissan pick-up truck...2 wheel dr.

They don't use speedo cables anymore, all electrical. On or in the transmission there is a VSS- vehicle speed sensor, and it sends a signal by wire to the dash cluster, and also to the engine computer.
If you recall, the speedo cable would attach at the center rear of the speedometer gauge. I don't remember just when, but all car makers stopped using cables to indicate speed, I think it was in the '80's when they went to electrical devices rather than cables. You can use a voltmeter to run tests on the sensor and/or the wires, but I don't know the procedure. You would have to consult a repair manual for that. It is not uncommon for the sensor to fail, but could also be a wiring problem, or the speedo gauge itself, but that is less common.

I need a replacement seat belt receiver or complete set, drivers side. Also, my speedometer stopped working, what should I look for?

You will only need to bye the receiver section, and for the Speedo, check the drive and cable if it's mechanical spin the cable see if the Speedo works, or check wiring and sensor power in out of sensor if it's electrical type...

You may need another speedometer. The speed sensor sends a signal to both the speedo and the odometer. So if the sensor fails, both meters would stop working.
The speedo gets power from the same circuit as the warning lights.

Speedometer stopped working on 93 g20 chevy van where is speed sensor

Depending on the transmission, if there is no speedo cable the sensor should be in the tailshaft area of the transmission where the speedo cable would have been.

Speedo has suddenly stopped working also the mileometer has also stopped? please help

If you can hear it while your driving its the speedo and not the cable. Replace speedometer or whole gauge cluster.( What ever is easyer) You can find one on ebay. It could also be the speedo sensor on the top back half on the engine. REAL EXPENSIVE! Even for a used one. About $150 bucks for the sensor. And about the same for the Cluster.

i had this problem with mine if your cable spins wen the car is moving its not the gear box end or the cable its the speed sensor in the speedo its self its very easy to fix you have to strip the speedo out of the case the sensor is only small and on the under side of the speedo the sensor is about 50 mm long and 10 mm wide change that and it should be ok
