The turn signals had to have been added, check to make sure you're using the correct bulbs I believe the number is 1157 also check the hazard switch part of the aftermarket turn signal switch to make sure it either works or is turned off. It the hazard switch is connected it has to have a separate flasher also the turn signal switch separates the front from the rear of the vehicle the most common colors for the rear turn signals is green goes to right rear and yellow goes to left rear.check to make sure all the light sockets have a good ground. I know this seems complicated but it's not. I hope this helps. Take care. If you have more questions for me use the comment section and it will show up in my email

Mike's answer is correct and you must make sure all the wires are going to where they should and separate flashers and good grounds and as Mike says a little bit of a pain but go slowly and you'll get there you can model any Ford lighting circuit that has all components to get it right and also make sure the brake light switch is correctly wired first before you go coconuts doing the rest good luck Stephen

When this happens the problem is most likely the multi-funtion switch aka turn signal switch. Check to see if the 3rd brakelight comes on when the brake pedal is pushed. If so replace the MFS. The 3rd brakelight in late 80's fords bypasses the turnsignal switch.

Probably the turn signal switch assembly. This is a common problem with the older Fords. The switch is a self contained unit at a cost of about $100.00.

Two issues here, you will need to replace the flasher. this will correct the erratic turn signals.

Concerning the brake light. Make sure the bulbs are in working condition and, check the wiring harness for faults as well. if the bulbs and wires arr OK, replace the brake light switch.

You can test for proper current by pulling the brake light bulbs out the socket and, use the copper prongs inside the brake light socket for testing. use a volt meter and, hit the brake pedal and, see if the meter registers a current. if not, replace the wiring harness.

Sounds as if the bulbs are bad, but could also be a failed multi-purpose switch.

Lets start at the beginning.
The turn signals and brake lights use different fuses but both go thru the turn signal switch and use the same bulbs.
Have you checked the fuses for each circuit and does each switch have power in and out ?

1995 Ford f250 brake lights don't work ad neither do the hazard flashers. I replaced the flasher node and the turn signals began to work but still no brake lights.

You may have a bad signal switch..Your brake lights run through the signal switch..Try hitting the brakes and move the switch around and see if your brake lights come on intermittently..

Driver side turn signal not working, changed bulb and when hazzard lights on this one still does not work

some possible causes are there could be a bad light socket, loss of power for the wire that operates the signal.have you checked to see if the light works when you push on the brake pedal.if its not then you could have a bad signal switch in the steering colume.i`m guessing the front light is working as you don`t say.

98 town car my brake lights both turn signals work my hazards work, but my running tail lights don't work

Hello,

Inside your instrument fuse panel look for fuse #31 which powers up the light control module and the main light switch, also while there be sure and check fuses 1, 3, 5, 7, and 9 to be sure they're not blown.

Good luck!

Let me know if this helps.

No brake lights

have you checked the fuses for the brake lights it is in the fuse panel under the dash on the driver`s side.if it is good and only the brake lights don`t work(signals work)then the nest step is to check the brake switch.this is under the dash at the base of the brake pedal and above.when you push on the brake pedal it pushes against or moves the switch enough to close the circuit.you should see a 2 wire plug connected to the switch.there should be power on one side of the switch at all times and when you push on the pedal there should be power on both wires.one wire supplies power to the switch and the other supplies power to the brake lights.if you don`t have power on both wires then you have a bad switch.NOTE fords have a problem with the wires breaking at the switch.

Have a 96 Olds Cutlass Supreme, brake lights will not work. We've replaced bulbs, fuses and brake light switch and still nothing. Help!

Try having someone push on brake pedal at the same time thay move the turn signal lever up and down slightly to see if your brake lights work this would tell me that you have a faulty turn signal switch because GM runs the brake lights thru the turn signal switch so they work if you are driving with your 4way flashers on.

97 FORD CONTOR NO BRAKE LIGHTS INSIDE REAR WINDOW BRAKE LIGHT WORKS,SIGNALS WORK EMEGENCY WORKS TOO ,BUT NO BRAKE LIGHTS. HELP!

If there is no fuse that is blown, then according to wiring diagrams on autozone.com repair info link it must be the combination switch: http://econtent.autozone.com:24991/znetrgs/repair_guide_content/en_us/images//0900c152/80/0a/8d/31//large/0900c152800a8d31.gif

My mother's brake lights (1996 Ford Contour) were not working and it was the combination switch. The combination switch is an assembly by the wheel, you use it to give turn signals, high beam, hazard lights and apparently the 'smart' Ford designers linked the rear brake lights to it. Could be a contact that is oxidized. I repaired mine. I may have one lying around. You can get this from a junk yard. I believe it is pretty simple to remove.
