Question about Kia Cars & Trucks

Open Question

The radio was working fine in my 2003 Kia Optima I have been working on the car and the battery was disconnected for a while. After I hooked the battery back up the radio did work.

But by the next day, it now has no power to the radio and I checked all the fuses that I am aware of am I missing something? This is the factory AM FM cd radio that came with the car. Thank you for your time in this matter.

Disconnect your negative battery cable for about 10min. After you re-connect, the stereo should reset itself and start functioning. Best of luck!

Your radio/nav system needs a code. Go the your dealer's parts department , give them the VIN of your car( should be free $0). Punch in the code through the car radio and your radio/nav system should work right away.

Most stock codes are zeros. A dealer may be able to give you this information without charging you anything. Try calling them if the code does not work.

Does my 2003 kia optima have a fuel pump cut off button and if so where is it

There is a fuel pump relay and it is;

If you remove the trim panel around the radio, its located behind the ash tray (no need to actually pull the radio). There are two relays, the lower one is your fuel pump. The other is the main relay.

You can try disconnecting the battery for ten minutes and that may resolve the issue as well. I cannot find the fuel shut off switch on that model. There is a fuel pump fuse that is located in the fuse panel and that may be bad, I would recommend that you check that first before you do anything else.

2003 Kia Optima - Dashboard Lights not working.

if you have aftermarket lights hooked up to the dash light it has been known to smoke the rheostat that controls the dimmer. I would also check the other fuses, sometimes the cluster refers to the guages themselves and not the lights that illuminate them

REInstall a Starter

First shut everything off in the car, especially radio this should prevent you having to recode it, now disconnect the battery positive terminal. Locate the starter under the engine and bolted to transmission. Disconnect the wires at the back of the starter, then unbolt it from the transmission housing. replace starter and proceed to hook everything back up in reverse order.
