It sounds like your rotary has flooded (common with the RX8)

RX8 rotary engines runs rich naturaly, no need to worry about the exhaust smelling a little more rich than most cars (your supposed to run a premium fuel in them). The engine in the car is also prone to flooding if you do not warm it up a bit before driving. You need not run the engine for 5 minutes however, a good 45 seconds should be fine, unless your going to shut it off again after that.

If your car is flooded, let it sit for about 15 minutes then give it another try, if that doesn't work, your nearest Mazda dealer is used to towing them in to fix it ;)

TIP! To make sure of a good start every time for a rotary engine, make sure it is in nutral or park (if a/t) when you go to turn it off, and rev it up to 3 grand then turn the key off, this burns any remaining fuel as the rotary winds down and shuts off. Thus the next time you start, you wont have any leftover fuel in the engine so you are most likely to not flood the engine.

Car won't start

Does the car try to start at all when you turn key? If it does try but just won't start then it could be flooded. If you had it started and running the night before and say went arond o the store rewl quick and back home hen it wouldn't start the next morning.. I would bet money he engine is flooded. Its an expensive fix at dealer, but you can do I yourself for free with one socket and a few minutes.

Had a question bout my mazda rx8 I was driving it one night it was running fine the next day went out and it won't turn over it takes awhile bit it finally starts and idles real rough and you give it...

Too many possibilities

Won't turn over is one problem -battery,cables,grounds,
starter,solenoid,etc

Idles rough-- vacuum leaks, spark plugs never replaced,
egr valve etc

Worn O2 Sensors
Dirty MAF Sensor
Old Fuel Filter

You have to go into a lot of technical detail & history
on your vehicle, for us to even guess.

Not sure if I flooded my rx8...

if you hold gas pedal to floor while cranking, it shuts off the fuel supply to clear a flooded engine. Try it & report

This is an idea not a for sure. Bad or worn valves can cause what you describe. Had something similar happen to an 2004 Toyota. Due to bad lubrication, crazy huh?

2004 mazda rx8 cranks but won't start

Sounds like you flooded it not with water but with fuel due to moving car with out warming it up all the way before shutting it off. You can take it to the dealer and get a flash update to prevent this in the future. To deflood remove spark plugs and let sit with fan on them over night to dry out. Replace and start cranking for 15 seconds at a time till she starts up. GL!
