Question about 1999 Pontiac Grand Am GT

1 Answer

99 Pontiac Grand Am. I accidentally slid the trunk remote trunk release lockout switch to ON and now cannot open the trunk via the remote or via the remote trunk release button inside the car. I am supposed to be able to use the key to open the trunk manually but the trunk lock cylinder has been broke for some time so now I have no way to get the trunk open. I was able to open the trunk via the remote and inside car release before I switched the button to "ON". How do I gain access to the trunk lock without destroying the lock cylinder and buying a new one?

That's what I was trying to do too but apparently the rear seat is a 60/40 split seat where each piece folds down. Only problem? The seat release latches are located in the trunk, which I cannot get into anyway now. What a pain in the ****!!

Ok, finally found out how to do it. I removed the rear speaker on the rear deck lid. Once I did that, I was able to reach my hand through the hole in the trunk and pull the seat release straps to fold down the rear seat. Then I climbed into the trunk and slid the trunk lockout switch back to "OFF" and now I'm able to open my trunk with the keyfob and via the remote trunk release button in the car.

I'm not 100% sure with that vehicle, but you might be able to remove the back seat to gain access to the trunk

Can not open trunk on a pontiac soltice. No clicking sound from remote or switch in glove box fuses are ok

The rear compartment lid release system consists of the following components:
• Body control module (BCM)
• Folding top cover actuator
• GMLAN serial data link
• Keyless entry transmitter
• Rear compartment lid ajar switch
• Rear compartment lid release actuator
• Rear compartment lid release switch
• Remote control door lock receiver (RCDLR)
• Trunk fuses
• Trunk release relay

Rear Compartment Lid Release System Operation
The rear compartment lid can be released by operating the rear compartment lid release switch or pressing the rear compartment lid release button on the keyless entry transmitter. When the rear compartment lid release switch is operated, the rear compartment lid release switch signal circuit to the body control module (BCM) is switched to ground. The BCM receives the rear compartment lid release switch input and applies ground to the trunk release relay control circuit. This energizes the trunk release relay coil, closing the switch side contacts, allowing battery voltage to be applied to the rear compartment lid release actuator and folding top cover actuator, releasing the buttresses and opening the rear compartment lid. Ground for the rear compartment lid release switch is provided at G300. The rear compartment lid ajar switch, rear compartment lid release actuator, and folding top cover actuator are provided ground at G301. The rear compartment lid will not release until the vehicle speed is zero and in park.

Do you know what DTC'S - diagnostic trouble codes are ?
DTC B3265 01 : Trunk Relay Output Short to Battery
DTC B3265 06 : Trunk Relay Output Short to Ground or Open

Do you know what a relay is an how it works ? TRUNK release relay located in the underhood fuse / relay box.

Open trunk grand prix

According to the owners manual, there should be a key slot around the tail lights or trunk lid. You can also use the power door lock switch to unlock the trunk by holding the switch in the unlock position.

My fuel cover does not lock with central locking

According to WIS, the remote boot release is directly connected to the PSE via CAN
The pneumatic system equipment makes vacuum or pressure available for the following systems:Central locking (CL), (pressure, vacuum)Remote trunk release (RTR), (pressure)- actuation via remote trunk release switch or via radio
AD80.20-P-2002-02B Remote trunk release, general notes on Models 202.01/02/12/12 as of 1.6.97,diagnosis, advanced information, RTR 208, 210 as of 1.3.97, 210.081Actuation of PSE control module:The remote trunk release switch (N72s15) is connected to the PSE control module (combined) (A37) via CAN data buses. The remote trunk release radio signal from the key is conveyed to the overhead control panel control module (N70) via theantenna. This transmits the signal to the electronic ignition switch control module (N73) via CAN data buses. If a valid signal is recognized there the PSE control module (combined) (A37) is actuated via CAN data buses. The remote trunk release IR signal from the key is conveyed to the respective door control module (N69/1, N69/2) via the IR receivers (A26/1, A26/2). This transmits the signal to the electronic ignition switch control module (N73) via CAN data buses. If a valid signal is recognized there the PSE control module (combined) (A37) is actuated via CAN data buses.
If the trunk lid is unlocked the LED in the remote trunk releaseswitch (N72s15) is actuated by the PSE control module (combined)(A37) via CAN data buses.
Special features on model 208.4 (Cabriolet)The trunk lid cannot be released remotely with the transmitter key.The rollover bar (RB)/soft top operation control module (N52)signals via the CAN interior data bus whether the soft top is lockedor unlocked or the power soft top switch (S84) is operated. As long as the CAN message reads:"Power soft top switch (S84) operated" or"soft top unlocked"the trunk lid cannot be released remotely.

The trunk lock latch is in the lock position in the trunk and the key will not open the trunk in a 1994 pontiac grand am

Often, the trunk latch does not get lubricated enough(I can tell you from my dealer tech experience that places like Jiffy Lube NEVER service the body latches).Try pulling the release handle while some else "slaps" the trunk lid. This usually works on the hood, trunk, and remote fuel door release.I would see many Grand Ams that were only 2-3 years old with these problems.

2001 pontiac grand prix will not go into park fully and it gets stuck so I have to stick a key into the shift release button also trunk wont open

The shifter cable might need adjustment from the PRINDLE switch on the transmission and the trunk switch needs to be replaced.

Can't open trunk using the inside lever, key or button. Any suggerstions as got perishable food stuck in there. Thanks

If your Grand Am has the split rear folding seat, you can try folding the seat down but using a wire coat hanger. Try to snake the coat hanger through the split in the seat and hook the strap to pull it to be able to fold the seat down to gain access to the trunk. http://www.gaownersclub.com/forum/attachment.php?attachmentid=17492&d=1121049659

As for the trunk being locked. Is it possible the remote lockout was activated? Try a yard stick to slide the red switch or just crawl in after you folded the seat down and removed all the food. If it's engaged, the remote solenoid will still activate (you can hear it), but the trunk won't open remotely.

Good luck and keep us posted. Thank you for using fixya

2001 pontiac grand prix trunk release dose not work remote or inside car no power at release in trunk.

Sounds as though the motor may have quit working, check your fuse or the relay in the underhood power center. The key still works correct? Do you hear any noise when you try the remote switches? If you do the rods may have come loose or the holders may have broken.

Trunk release button won't work, remote will

not entirely sure about your buick, but I have a 2000 pontiac that has a switch just inside the glovebox that deactivates the trunk switch. that, together with locking the glovebox would prevent someone with jsut the valet key from gaining access to the trunk area.
