Question about 1992 Saturn SL

1 Answer

First of all. We have put 2 new starters on this car recently. We thought the first might have been a fluke. However we had the 2nd checked and it tested fine as did the battery and alternator. Problem is most of the time it won't start. Sometimes though it will run and that will last almost exactly 5 day and then it just won't start anymore until the next time we get lucky. It ran fine a few months ago.

What do you mean by wont start?? engine cranks but wont run? engine wont crank? Is the anti-theft light flashing? is the car in park? did you put it in Neutral and try to crank it?

BBB Industries have online wiring diagrams under Technical. Trace that run wire and check its connections/connectors for breakage or corrosion . It is possible to get a fluke switch, so keep that in mind also .

What can check when I have already put a new alternator on and still no charge?

Make sure the feeling wire going from the battery to the starter is tight at the starter. One side of the battery has two wires, follow the 2nd white tho the starter.

I have a 2005 dodge 5.7 litre Hemi. During the cold months in WI it doesn't want to turn over and start. I recently put in a new battery ( high end) and that does nothing. Any thoughts?

Check all the ground wires, possibly upgrade most Dodges have pretty weak grounding wires as do most domestics in general, American wiring just isnt as good as the Japs or Europeans. Also check the cables going to your starter. Make sure to check the hot and the ground on this one.

2001 Expedition won't start sometimes. Took it to auto zone said it wasn't battery alternator starter is pulling to many amps. So check starter connections first then put new starter on. Would like 2nd...

Hi, Usually starter draws the current about 300 Amps to crank the engine. If your car is not crank, the problem is either on your battery or starter relay/solenoid. If car crank but it does not start, the problem are on ignition, fueling.
In your case, I think just check the current draws of starter ( auto zone has done, but no data) compare it with new starter. If there is significant difference then they are correct. In contrary, then the problem is not on your starter, it could be your battery.

That means the transmission is going into Limp mode - something's wrong that is making the car believe it can be damaged by the speeds the upper gears will allow you to reach. For starters, check the fluid level (or just change it - it's not a bad idea), and disconnect the battery for an hour or so to put the ECU into relearn mode - this will clear current fault codes and allow you a fresh start to see if the condition reappears, or if it was a fluke failure of some part that caused the car to repeatedly go into limp mode.
