Best Practices

  • We recommend using high-quality fuel filters to keep contaminants out of the fuel system.
  • When replacing a fuel filter, the shop should also replace any associated washers or seals to prevent leaks in the fuel system.
Common Symptoms
  • A partially plugged fuel filter can result in a lean running condition and cause the Check Engine Light to come on.
  • Infrequent fuel filter changes can lead to potentially expensive problems with the fuel pump and/or injectors.
  • A dirty fuel filter can cause a "noisy" fuel pump and a loss of engine power.

I would start by pulling the fuel pump fuse and starting the vehicle. This will get rid of the pressure on the fuel line. Once the vehicle will not start crank it over for about 10-15 seconds. Then the fuel filter is located under the brake booster on the drivers side. It has two hose clamps that hold it on. Remove the two hose clamps and replace the filter. Then install the fuel pump fuse. Turn the key to the on position and wait till you hear the fuel pump shut off. Turn the key off and repeat this step 3 times to build fuel pressure. Then you should be ready to go!

The gas you use shouldn't change after any miles. Keep it to what the factory recommends. You'll be wasting your money if you put premium and it only needs regular.
