See if timing would help. Inspect the fuel being sent to the cylinders. There may be excess. Check the spark plugs for signs such as soot or if it is wet.

Please check on the timing. It is possible that the timing is off of sync and so this results in backfiring . Mostly it can be advanced and the firing takes place when the throttle is cut . Also check if there is fuel overflow as it can result in pile up in the exhaust and cause this firing.

Fixit is not a authorized Toyota dealer. Your question can only be answered by a authorized Toyota dealer. If you are very afraid you can request the dealer to tow your car to the shop for repair.

BTW, do you know what the gear is between R and D?

not enough to go on, but these were not slow bikes. try plugs, mucky carbs, carb jets, air filter.... take out plugs, any dirty black while others are clean or white? start bike from cold, run very short while and turn off. carefully feel exhaust pipes at top, are thay all same temp? one or two not getting warm? watch you don't burn your hands....will tell you if all cyliders firing ok.

It seems the vacuum modulator could be faulty or the throttle preasure cable has slipped and is out of adjustment.

On hard excelleration poping or back firing

If its back firing you may have put the plugs back on in the wrong order, the firing order should be printed on your manifold xheck them and see if it does the trick.

Miss-fires especially when cold, hesitates when you excellerate

I had this happen recently to our Buick rendezvous. Unfortunately it was due to a blown head gasket. It goes away when warm due to the block expanding. Coolant was getting through into the cylinder. Hopefully this isn't your problem but the same symptoms. We had replaced plugs, wires, and an 02 sensor before comfirming it was a head gasket. Luckily ours was covered under warranty.
