Hi, Lugnuttsplac for this scenario you will need your service manual that has all fastener torque specs and a wiring diagram on the back pages, parts fiche, and owners manual if you can not find the best tool you ever bought for your Ultra, despair not, for a mere zero $0 you can download another one.

SOURCE: Seagate ultra u320 scsi drive
SCSI is a class of knowledge on its own - drive numbering etc etc - Have you set up the drive cable with the termination block at the end ??.
There are plenty of recovery programs around ( if you have a failing drive or deleted filed etc) but first you have to get the drive 'recognised' by the system.
Try also to Google on "SCSI setup" solutions and try www.youtube.com also. There maybe a video on how to set the drive up, there.

SOURCE: How do I power a SATA DVD drive?
There are actually adapters for SATA powered devices as long as you have the required SATA data cable connection to your motherboard.
Click here to see an example of this item from ebay.
All you would have to do is plug in the adapter into any free connection on your existing power supply and then plug in the SATA data cable both into your drive and the motherboard. There are actually SATA data cable adapters if you don't have that either, but i'll just stick to answering your question! (:

Testimonial: "Thank You, the manual for the PS doesn't explain this. Tom"
The following steps may help you:
Start>type control folders>under view tab> tick on "Show hidden files, folders or drives" and at the same time remove tick from "Hide protected operating system files"

Usually with an external hard drive it's not necessary for it to copy over an existing backup or at least you can program your PC not to do this. What will happen is you will have several different copies of backup's and you will have to decide if you want to erase the others and keep the most resent one. Yes your file will be saved withing the backup but if you change the file name it will file this as a new file
