20 Most Recent Rheem RTG-74PVN-2 Natural Gas Pronto Whole House, Natural Gas, Tankless Wat Questions & Answers

Have 2 of these Rheem units in my house. Both had this same error code within 30 days of each other. And my neighbor has 2 units as well - and guess what - 2 months after mine stopped working because of the code - so did theirs. It is not something that can be fixed. It is a manufacturer's defect - and it looks like Rheem has yet another class action on their hands (like the one for the RTG - 74 PVN). They need to do a recall to repace these units.

Factory set to standard should not need to be adjusted, if you have a problem then it will mean that one of the components on the pcb is not working.

Remove power source from the unit. If remote control is installed; remove cover and lift the control wires on the terminal...can be accomplished from either end. See if the unit runs longer.
If you're receiving any error codes, especialy code 76; contact RHeem customer support at (800-432-8373) and notify them IF you are getting a code "76" error.

Good luck,

Make sure that the gas valve is fully open. Check to see if you have voltage going into it, and the curcuit breaker didn't trip. If it's plugged into a GFCI outlet or circuit breaker, then make sure that it didn't trip.

Your thermal couple needs to be cleaned (sand paper the portion where the pilot light heats it) or possible replaced. It sounds like it is not sending the correct signal to the gas valve.

This unit operates as a boiler- and need ANNUAL service to clean the unit by flushing with a demineralizing solution ( Vinegar or CLR) If no maintenance is done it will accumulate minerals and corrosion which eventually cause unit failure. T the least the unit will operate at reduced efficiency
