Having a problem with a heater i bought
I have the same heater and when that happens just unplug it for about 15 minutes and plug it back in and it should work fine. It only does this for me when I am using a extension cord or a power strip. It needs a dedicated power supply (wall outlet) with nothing else attached. If you must use a extension cord I have found that the heavy gauge orange power cord is the only one that does not overheat and causes the heater to shut off. The heater comes with a 3 year warranty, the longest warranty I have ever seen with a heater.

Heater model 5500
You are sure you have power at the plug? If so it sounds like the internal circuit breaker tripped or the switch is bad. Either way, throw the heater away, they are not designed to be field repaired, sorry.

Switch wiring on my Decorflame QCIH412-GBKP:
Both three tab switches are interchangeable. I just replaced the power switch with the same part number. It had melted at the center tab. I had already verified that the unit was working by removing the bad ON/OFF switch, and moving the heater switch to its location.
1. White wires connect to "I" position on both switches
2. The power switch center tab has a shorter black protector wrap than the one that connects to the "O" tab.
3. The heat switch (wavy lines) center tab has a single black wire
4. The heat switch "O" tab has the double black wire connector.
Hope this helps.
