I have reviewed the on-line installation instructions for this lock, and it requires attention to detail to properly install.

For instance, the first one may have not closed all the way if your door has a 2 3/4" setback instead of 2 3/8", and you did not extend the bolt and adjust the latch as shown in figure 2 of Step 1.
Also, if you don't run the door handling routine properly as in Section 8, the lock won't work properly.
But I believe that you are past that learning curve after the second installation, and I don't know why the backlight won't work on your new lock.
I didn't see any option to enable/disable it in the instructions. So my suggestion: If the lock is otherwise working properly such that the backlighting is the only problem, I'd give a call to the Customer Service number 1-800-677-5625 and discuss it with them. They will let you know if and what the problem is, and a new lock is certainly under warranty!

I don't know if this is the best answer, but I would try to slip a heavy credit card between the door and the jam where the knob is. It may be a quick solution for the moment.

Have you released the knobs? They are held on with a small depression thing on the stem of the handle. Press this in and pull on the knob to release it.

Try the video it may be of some help but do the opposite
to the fitting.

Remove it and take it to a locksmith or
go get a new one or
hire a locksmith to come out to your house
they have tools to be able to reset when you have no working keys

It could be that you are trying to add a code again as well. You can not have the same code in say space one that you have in space 5.

My Kwikset lock has been working beautifully for several years now, and it is handy to not have to use keys.

If you can't figure out the programming, and want to start from scratch, with mine I believe that you remove the battery pack, press in on the program button for ten seconds, and reinsert the battery pack while still holding the program button. That erases all of the stored codes, and you can start over again.

None of what you described sounds like a locking issue, but a programming issue.
