1) Install all of the usual Minolta software in Vista if you haven't already.
2) Create a new folder somewhere
3) Create a new txt file in that folder and name it minolta.inf and paste this into it:

; minolta.inf -- Test Vista Minolta Film Drivers
;
;
; To remove this driver and install the original
; manufacturer's driver, go into Device Manager,
; open Imaging devices, then click on the scanner name
; with the right mouse button and choose Uninstall.

4. Save file. Turn on scanner and go into device manager and update the old minolta driver with this driver. You may have to manually update it.
5. Once installed, all the normal Minolta programs now work just fine. Enjoy!

I tested this on Vista 32 Ultimate with a Dimage IV but it should work on all the models listed in the .inf file.

I've read all the comments you've replied to the experts, but I didn't find anything related to "Windows 7 Compatibility Mode" Have you tried that using the Windows XP Drivers/Software? If not, let me know, otherwise I don't have better idea.
Thanks.

try this: http://www.hamrick.com/files/vuesca84.exe

Vuescan is IMHO the best available scan software (if you happen to use it propperly)

Surely it takes some efforts to understand the way Vuescan works but after you've finished your learning curve (this applies to all software) Vuecan will get much more out of your excellent Minolta scanner than any other tool I've used so far.
Using VueScan with Windows Vista

VueScan works with most scanners on Vista, but there are some USB and Firewire bugs in Vista that cause problems with some scanners. Be sure to test VueScan with your scanner before buying it.

When you install VueScan, it will ask you if you want to install a driver. This driver lets Windows Vista recognize most scanners. You may need to reboot your computer after installing this driver.

If you're using a newer HP ScanJet, you should first install the 'basic driver' for your scanner from www.hp.com.

If you're using a newer Canon scanner, you should first install the Windows Vista driver for your scanner from www.usa.canon.com.

If you're using an Epson Perfection 3170, 4180 or 4490, you should first install the Windows Vista driver for your scanner from www.epson.com.

If you're using a PIE or Reflecta scanner, you should first install CyberViewX for your scanner from www.scanace.com.
