Yes - owing to the optical design of the lens, the f. stop at 18mm is f3.5, closing to f5.6 at 55mm zoom (and, of course, pro-rata in between these limits, but the camera's meter will take care of this). These f. stops are of course 'fully open' - i.e. when the lens lets in the most light, but has the shallowest depth of field. For a lens of this design, the minimum f. stop is usually f22 at 18mm, closing to f32 at 55mm. For best results, an f. stop of between f8 to f11 is usually recommended, giving a compromise between shutter speed and depth of field.

By 'connect', do you mean camera to computer?
If so, is it the same computer (eg your laptop), or another one?
I'm thinking that maybe an outside computer doesn't have the required drivers.

Yes, Aperture and f-stop are interchangeable terms. In Aperture Priority YOU choose the f-stop (aka aperture) and the camera selects the shutter speed.

A: Make sure the lens cap is off.
B. Check that the drive mode is on "S" for single and not "C" for continuous. This won't correct the black images but will let it take just one exposure when the shutter release is pressed.
C: Make sure it is not in manual mode but with the shutter speed and f-spot set to where the images are so under exposed they appear black.
D. Send more info about the make/model of the camera.

There are many recovery softwares. The free ones can be pretty limited. (We do at our store.) If you have a photo store in your area see if they provide image recovery service. If not, there are options online. For truly stubborn cards with very valuable data we use DriveSavers but be ready it's $$$.

If you can hear the motor running then it is most likely the belt that connects the motor to the takeup is broken or stretched out and not longer driving the reel. That is a pretty easy repair.
If you cannot hear the motor then the trouble is more serious and probably not worth repair.

I DON'T KNOW. TRY PLUGGING IN YOUR CHARGER FOR 15 MINUTES THEN TURN ON THE CAMERA WITH THE CHARGER STILL CONNECTED. IF ALL IS WELL,
REMOVE CHARGER. IF PHONE SHUTS OFF SOON, IT SUGGEST YOU MAY NEED A NEW BATTERY. LOOK AT YOUR DOCUMENTATION AND AGREEMENTS. YOU MAY HAVE WARRANTY FOR YOUR CAMERA.
