Well, the lens light needs re-trimming, that's why it's having a hard time reading that audio CD.
The adjustment is in the LENS assembly, there is a trimmer nut under that you will have to adjust and clean. It always works on CD AUDiO player ( not on DVD ).
You could send it to Bose and have it tuned and service clean the whole unit, it is not that expensive or bring it to any electronic tech and he knows what to do.

Hope that helps!

1. Hold down the "clock set" button while pressing the "volume" button up or down (up for brighter, down for dimmer).

My guess is that the clock in the radio is based off of the AC line frequency (not voltage). In the US the line frequency is 60hz (hertz). I'm guessing that the line frequency in NZ is 50hz, which would seem to explain that extreme amount of time loss. I would check with Bose, but I'm betting they make different 50hz models for export.

The reason that it stops getting static when you move the cord is because you are acting as an antenna. This has nothing to do with the cord. You should probably place the radio closer to a window so it can get better reception.

these radios have a common problem, the caps go bad in them and all of them need replacing. if you are good with a soldering iron you can do it yourself. it takes time but it is fixable
