Hi,
It sounds optical lens might got thin layer of dust on its surface and causing problem in data reading on disc.
Take off dvd player's cover and clean its optical lens with good quality soft cotton bud gently then try to play disc.
Hope this will fix dvd player problem.
Thanks.

Dust does not cause a crackling sound in DVD players. You either have a bad connection between the player and the amplifier/receiver, a bad preamp out circuit board in the DVD player, or a bad input circuit board in the amplifier/receiver.
You can figure out which one is the culprit if you have another amplifier/receiver system to test with. If the problem moves with the amplifier/receiver, then it's the DVD player. If it does not, then it's the amplifier/receiver.

Some players are harder than others to do this but you may want to try here or here

Hi and welcome to FixYa,

Initially, pls try and clean the laser optics with the use of a CD disc cleaner. Additionally, perhaps you can open the DVD and clean the inside with a can of compressed air. While it is open, you can also apply a bit of lubricant on the long metal rod that serves as guide rail for the lens carriage to move on.

Good luck and Thank you for using FixYa. Happy Holidays.

Try cleaning the player with a DVD lens cleaner.

If you're adventurous enough, and the player is out of warranty, you might want to open up the player exposing the lens part. Then, try to eject and close the disk tray and see if the laser diode lits up (avoid staring at the laser light, it will ruin your eyesight! View it from the side not directly into your eye.)

Also check if the spindle spins a little. Or, with the top cover open (this magnetized cover serves to hold the disc firmly as it spins), insert a disc into the tray and close it. See if the spindle spins with the disc.

This problem points most of the time with either a bad laser or misalignment. If misalignment is the case, this could be fixed by carefully turning (very slowly...) a tiny potentiometer located near the laser diode (experiment with the best setting, mark each turn and try any disc with each turn. Be patient)

This fix is not for the faint of heart, and at your own risk. If you're not sure of what you will be doing, leave the servicing to a qualified technician.

Root Folder/ Directory refers to the main Folder which contains all the important informations and commands your player has. It is similar to your Root Directory in your PC -- Drive C:/ where all the system files are located.

Root Directory includes sub folders such as your player's Master Boot Record (MBR - very crucial, this is the boot operating system), music file directory, audio record directory, data files directory such as organizer and phone directory (if your player has one).

Root Directory is very important for your player's performance as it contains all the valuable informations and commands so your player would run under normal condition. Once everything was erased in that root folder, you'll render your player useless. So be extra careful when you upgrade your player's firmware as this erases all files including those the OPERATING SYSTEM in the root folder.

It is safe however to format within your player as this erases only your data files and music. Just to be sure, avoid formating your player in your PC's MY COMPUTER/ WINDOWS EXPLORER unless it is specified in the users manual.

Luckily, MBR are usually erased when you entered your player's SERVICE MODE and you choose to erase the Firmware using some special keys. So, as long as you're using your player as mentioned in your users manual, you're okay with it. If you doesn't know all about mp3 player repairs or upgrades, leave the SERVICE MODE or PLAYER RECOVERY to the technicians.

Locate the four holes in the back of your television, you just need to measure the dimensions from left to right and top to bottom. The horizontal and vertical measurement is your VESA.
