Please check for the belts if the battery you have installed is new and the set gives a hum on play. If not you will have to check the power switch, the mechanism switch and the line to the main board.
If the motor turns but not the capstan and the reel then change the belt, the rollers or the pulley. I hope this will get your set back to action. Good day

Try the line out on the back of the unit and see if sound signal comes out there U must plug that into a preamp on your stereo the signal level is to low for the headphones to sound and if there is sound then u have a blown output amp in the headphones circuit!

likely something has wrapped around the drive capstan, that would make tapes play faster. Forward and reverse are likely belt issues.

this is probably a internal issue, when the keys are pressed, there is a small spring loaded power connected that is pushed together to power the device on and has either got manky and sticky and stuck or spring has failed,

the unit would need to be opened and maybe able to be fixed with some switch cleaner

there are little rubber belts inside that attach the motor to the gears that turn the tapes or cd's. over time they stretch out and turn everything slower and slower. you can try replacing the belts, or finding the speed adjustment screw for the motor and turning it up. either one is usually more effort than its worth though. they just weren't designed to last for a long time.

You have to replace the IC 601, probably burns because of some passive components that must be replaced. "Doctor.walkman @ gmail.com"

If this is the WMD6C then it is servo locked and can be fine tuned with the pitch control on the back of the unit just turn the switch to on then adjust to preferred speed.

These are different types of Cassette media available. Normal is regular cassettes. CrO2 is Chromium Dioxide coated. Metal is FeCr, FerriChrome or something like that. I forget what the Dx is, another type of regular media, I think, or a different type of recording type.
