Unplug it and take the back off. Look too see if the fuse right next to the power cord is black. Replace it. If it pops again, you have damaged the board and need a repair guy. Look for any burnt parts before replacing the fuse.

Loose connections on power supply and vertical IC.Resolder

The first thing you can do is try plugging it somewhere else. Sometimes its the wall outlet. Unplug it and check to see if the plugs don't wiggle. Sometimes the metal plate on the plugs has broken loose. While it is plugged in move the cord to see if it does it. When all that don't determine the problem. You can open the TV, and check for loose connection, and cracked solder joints. Look aroun the flyback area because thats where most cracks develop because of its weight. I really don't recommend opening the TV because you could make the problem worse if you are not carefull. Also the tube can have lethal charge even if not plugged in, and some TV this charged remain for up to three days. Good luck.

There is one way to test a remote control. Turn on your pc cam. Face the remote control to it, and as you press any of the buttons you should see blinking lights from the Infrared emmitter diode. Our eyes can't see this but a pc cam can. You can also use a camcorder or a camera phone. If you see light blinking the remote is bad. Just get another remote, maybe a universal one. If the remote blink most likely the problem is the device in which you are using the remote to control whatever it is. In the front there is an infrared recieving module. Try replacing that, you would have to open the device of course, and make sure you don't touch ruin anything in there with static electricity. You would need a soldering iron, a desoldering wick, and some solder to replace it. Other than that it is a job for electronic technician.

Not an easy fix because of the smoke which means that there is a short from a bad ground that may have blown a capacitor because of a loose connection. Often a short on the circuit board results in having to get a new one because of damage from the sparks. Make sure it is unplugged at all times until someone can open it and look. With any luck, the damage is light and the loose wire can be re soldered at minimal cost.

Your problem is in the vertical deflection circuit. If you know how to solder it may just be a cold solder connection, but if you try to solder it and it still does not work, you may have a bad Vertical output IC. This set has really no user replaceable parts unless you have some no how on serviceing solid state printed circuit boards. If you dont , my advise would to seek out a repair depot and have them fix this set for you. It should not run more then 150 bucks or so. Good Luck Ps please do not forget to rate this thread.

i would not recomend replacing the 7w with the 5w, beacuse the resistor will allways run hot, hotter then the resistor should be. the resistor could possible melt anything that touches it & will not last as long as the original before it goes bad. find a 7w, if just for safty reasons.
