The T40 series model has several different types of wireless. It is most likely the wrong wireless card driver was installed. Download all the wireless card drivers and install one at a time until you get the right driver.

Go to the IBM/Lenovo WEB site - support/download page and download the latest Windows XP or Vista device drivers for your model computer, Use this link :-
http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/product.do?template=%2Fproductselection%2Flandingpages%2FbrowseByProductLandingPage.vm&sitestyle=lenovo&brandind=10&validate=true
You can download the various drivers and then you click on and run the various driver files, they will then unzip and expand into a folder on C:\drivers Then install the various drivers from this folder.

Sound like the videocard is bad or possibly a bad ram stick.Check it with an external monitor. If it shows video on it ,the card is ok.If not the videocard is bad.If it shows video, the ram may be bad or the connection to the motherboard is incomplete or the plug is bad. Also unplug the HDD then try to start it up.If the bios is readable the HDD is causing a conflict.

the board level soldering might be worm out for memory chip or the graphic chip. Latop does have hot issues. When it is in use, try not to move the computer. always close the clamp shell and use both hand to handle the notebook when it is in use or when it is still warm.

The chip soldering problem can be resolve by locating a local board level repair shop or technicians. It is not that difficult with experienced technicians or shops.

To access the Power jack you need to disassemble to entire system.
Make sure remove power, battery then Memory and HDD. The CMOS battery must be remove also before do anything, (Or plug off from Motherboard) Any metal touches on board while battery is on, will destroy the motherboard. So make sure do not drop any screw on board with battery is on(CMOS) Or touch with screwdriver.
You need to parted out everythink with care and put aside by taking notes. every screw sizes different, wrong assembling will result the system not to power on again. Line up what ever taking off with care.
If you do so, make sure every socket you remove, seats back tide and nice, ANY banding, or HARD push will break parts, so be gentle. Do not band Motherboard, casues the copper lines cracks on board, result does not power on or even fry the board. If you will solder the Power jack, You need to be carefull, not to leak any leads on board or solder over used. To make sure you need also OHM meter to check the connections are ok. Reverse is important, be carefull and take your time if you want your system runs again. Mean time clean your fan system. You will need this.
If you do not experiences before, do not do anything. Take it to Tech.
I am not responsible what ever wrong doing because I advice to you something, what ever you do, it is your own risk. and Goodluck.

I'm not sure what you mean by the T41 modem. If you mean the phone modem the it cannot be replaced because it is part of the motherboard.
If you mean the wireless card, then this can be easily replaced. To access this wireless card, remove the ketboard. There are four screws securing the keyboard and these are labeled with a keyboard symbol. After removing the screws the keyboard can be lifted up. The wireless card is located towards the top LH corner of the laptop and is held in place with screws, it also has two wires (for the wireless aerial) attached to the wireless card.

It depends upon what you mean by "USE".

0. Do you HAVE bluetooth?
- there is a bluetooth light over the keyboard (of course probably not lit)
- there is a bluetooth identifier on the bottom of the laptop
- the FN+5 key brings up a menu of (possibly, wireless) and Bluetooth.

0.1 if NOT then you need to ADD a bluetooth USB adapter

Usage:
1. Use to synchronize a PIM or cell phone or other DATA connection
- This should be fine; you need to solve (0) first (that you HAVE the hardware) then the driver, then have it running

2. Use a bluetooth headset to listen to audio.
- this you can *NOT* do with the default IBM bluetooth stack - I tried, an "audio adapter" for the bluetooth was simply not supplied by IBM. It would require changing to some non-IBM bluetooth stack, and I chose not to do that so never got a bluetooth headset working with my T41.
