Maybe the ink in the cartridges degraded or you have to clean the printing heads on the cartridges try the customer service.

Press the On button to turn the printer off.
Unplug the power cord from the back of the printer.
Remove all the ink cartridges.
Wait two minutes.
Plug the power cord into the back of the printer.
Press the On button to turn the printer on.
Install the ink cartridges when prompted.

Issue After you plug the USB cable into the product and the computer, the error message 'Unknown Device ' displays on the computer. This document resolves this issue for Windows XP operating systems. Try the following solutions in the order presented to resolve the issue. When one of the solutions resolves the issue, there is no need to continue troubleshooting. Solution one: Check the USB connectionFollow these steps to test the USB connection between the HP product and your computer. Step one: Inspect the USB cable and connection The icon on the USB cable (c01424575.gif ) faces up when the cable connects to the product correctly. Check the back of your product and the back of your computer to make sure the USB cable connects correctly and securely. Step two: Reset the printerAfter you resolve all potential USB conflicts, follow these steps to restart the HP product.
  1. Press the Power button (c01602202.gif ) to turn off the product. NOTE: The product might not turn off after pressing the Power button. Continue to the next step regardless.
  2. Disconnect the power cord from the rear of the product.
  3. Unplug the power cord from the electrical outlet.
  4. Wait 30 seconds.
  5. Replug the power cord into the electrical outlet.
  6. Reconnect the power cord to the rear of the product.
  7. Press the Power button (c01602202.gif ) to turn on the product.
  • If the installation automatically continues and completes successfully , you do not need to continue troubleshooting.
  • If the installation does not automatically continue , restart the installation process.
  • If the issue persists , continue to the next solution.
