Hi-8 camcorders might be backward-compatible for playing tapes. I bought a model which could be switched between the two modes - Sony DCR-TRV355E.

Very easy. Read the manual, or download a digital copy of it.

You can use roxio easy VHS to DVD. It comes with the cables to hook up to your usb on the computer and plugs directly into the camcorder. Just got mine and I think I have to clean the heads on the camcorder, unfortunately I do not know where to get a cleaner.

Most people just record over the old ones. You have to buy a bulk degausser to erase them. Read this web page, and it has a link to a degausser. You can also google them to find other ones:

Good luck, and hope this helps.

Hi,
You need Hi-8 camcorder/ Hi-8 player to playback your old Video-8 tapes, hook that camcorder/ player with DVD Recorder, play video-8 tapes and burn DVDs directly.

What brand of DVD recorder? On my Panasonic, I use RCA cables to connect my camcorder to the yellow and white inputs on the front of the DVR. I have to press "input select" on the remote a few times until I get to L2, I think. This is a "line in" sort of setting and it directs the DVR to get its input from the RCA-style cables. Have your camcorder playing something you've recorded in its Video mode. If your TV is on the correct input (mine is called "Video 2", I think), you should see the camcorder image on your TV screen. Now, just rewind to the beginning of your camcorder tape. Insert a DVD-R disk (that's what mine takes) in your DVR. Hit Play on your camcorder and quickly press REC on the DVR remote. Let me know if this doesn't work.

I'd take note of the battery model and search eBay. they usually have a good range of spares like this.

Generally there is an A/V socket at the front of the camera (under a plastic cover?) and you plug a stereo 3.5 mm plug which has two RCA sockets or jacks on it into this. Connect these to your DVD recorder - to Left and to Audio. This works on the ES300V.
