I just had the same thing happen to me. There was a lightning storm here on Saturday night so, even though I have a surge protector, I assume that it took a surge. HERE IS THE SOLUTION! If you unplug the printer (pull the plug!) for at least 20 minutes (which lets the system discharge)then plug it back in, the system is allowed to reset and will fire back up when you press the power button. I know the above post is 3 weeks old, but I'm hoping this will help other searchers like me as well.

You mean the inside of the scanner glass? (The platten is a part of the print unit),

You'll have to remove the sides and read cover. Unplug the scanner wires and remove the scanner assembly. Separate the document feeder from the scanner bed. Open the covers of the scanner bed (usually there are screws holding it together). Remove the glass and clean it. Reverse the process to reassemble.

Be careful. Canon multipasses are built a little like a Chinese puzzle box. There are little snaps everywhere as well as screws. Watch out you don't force anything and cause the snaps to break.

My printer just died. The first indication of a problem was ink cartridges not being recognized. I replaced 3 in one night. The next time I went to print the entire unit just lost power and will no longer power on. From what I've been reading a bad print head can fry the logic board. At that point the only solution is to replace the board. For a 5+ year old machine and a logic board that will cost ~$100, it doesn't seem worth repairing.

It's very late for this solution but as I found this while trying to fix the problem for myself I figure its worth sharing the solution which I've now written up.

Hope it helps someone as this was not fun.

Inkjet printers need to be used frequently to prevent ink drying out and blocking the print head nozzles.
If the print head cleaning maintenance routine does not clear the blockages, then print head needs replacing, but it may be expensive.
It may be more cost effective to buy a later model and better printer than replace the print head.

uninstall the printer software from your pc and reinstall new software from canon website. When reinstalling new software you may have the option to choose your preffered language.
Hope this helps

On my MP780, be careful to select the appropriate paper type; I was getting black smudges on the left side of my envelopes until I explicitly set that my paper type was "envelope" from "plain paper".
Another idea is to adjust the "ink drying wait time" to a higher level.

6A00 is a problem with the sheet feed unit. I would get in touch with Canon, to hopefully get it repaired. Not much you can do yourself sadly.

Good for you Deborah but I already typed this one up.

1) With the machine turned on, park your print head like you are going to replace ink cartridges

2) Remove all the ink cartridges. Turn off the machine. Put a piece of tape across the felts of the ink cartridges keep the ink from drying.

3) To the left upper edge of the printer carriage there is a 3 inch long metal handle - lever. It is under a bit of tension from a stiff spring but lift it and rotate it toward the rear of the machine. this will release the printer head from the carriage. The printer head can be recognized by the 5 felts across the bottom. Lift and rotate the printer head toward the front of the machine. it will come out easily.

5) THE BOOK SAYS not to touch the printer head or contacts. I clean both with a Q-Tip dipped in rubbing alcohol. If the head is really filthy soak a paper towel with rubbing alcohol and gently blot the head on the towel. the ink will be absorbed by the fibers of the towel.

6) Once you have cleaned the print head, move the carriage all the way to the left and spend some time with Q-Tips and alcohol and clean as much ink off the top of the purge unit as you can reach.

7) CAREFULLY examine the clear plastic tape just below the carriage drive belt which is the brain of the carriage unit and tells the printer where it is. Use a clean Q-Tip to remove any ink or grease which might have gotten on the tape. If any foreign matter remains on the tape after you are done, the printer will not work properly again until you clean it. I know because I spent several hours working on an old HP and got ink on the tape. It would not work until I noticed the ink and cleaned it off. HP technical support does not have this as part of their knowledge base.

8) I put a drop of water and a drop of alcohol on the felts of the ink cartridges and the printer head when I reassemble everything to so as to "loosen everything up".

9) Run some test prints and see how everything works

10) Remember the simplest things to fix are quite often the things we overlook when searching for complicated answers.

Hi
Error 6A00
The 6A00 is a Canon generic code for paper path jam.

Solution 1:
Move the printhead carriage back and forth a few times.

Solution 2:
Check the purge unit: Moving the print head assembly will not clear a purge unit if its jammed with paper, paper clips, push pins, screws, cookie crisp, flower bud pods or the like.

Solution 3:
Press the ink pads down in the purge unit.

Please come back and just gave a vote, it will gave me some satisfaction to know am helping some one so I will keep on helping.

Replace ink carts.

Hi follow the instructions as above...
ie Remove inks and print head...

But instead...
Whilst Canon print head is out...

Use cotton wool and alcohol and clean electrical contacts on back of print head and where they make contact inside printer.

Then install print head and inks and test.

If it does not work you may need to replace print head.
Hope it helps!
Good Luck!

[5C00} & Light Blinking 4 times = Purge Cam Sensor Error. That's mean there is an error occurred in the purge unit. You may either need to replace PURGE UNIT or LOGIC BOARD to solve out this error. Thank you.

My MP830 did the same thing today. I thought it was toast. However through a Google search I found the following suggestion.

Unplug the MP830 for 20 minutes or more. Plug the MP830 back in and hit the power button.

To might great relief my MP830 powered up and is working just fine.

Open the scanner cover so you can see the platen glass. Now look on the left side of the glass, and you should see a sliding switch, probably blue in color. Move the switch to the icon that shows an open padlock (unlocked position).
