20 Most Recent Foxconn CPU Cooler Fan CPU Fan Questions & Answers

Hi Tim,

I can not say for sure that this is whats happening, but from your description, it seems logical.

After work is done on a computer, sometimes one of the ribbon (data) or power cables isn't completely secured. It can move around within the case, especially if it is transported (like back from a shop).

On occasion one of the cables comes in contact with a CPU fan (or any of the fans in a computer). If it does, the noise they make is horrendous.

Fortunately, the fix is easy. Get a flashlight and a screwdriver.
  • Open the box.
  • Switch the computer on
  • Locate the noise source if possible paying attention to the areas around the fans.
  • When you find it switch off.
  • If it was a cable just relocate it out of the way.
If this turns out not to be the problem, please comment back with more detail.

Best regards

Mike

You can solder the two open ends of the wires/base together. Generally, it doesn't hurt at all to have the yellow wire not connected. As long as the fan is still running, you will be fine. The yellow wire gives information about the fan RPM. You just won't be alerted if the fan stops working.

If you are innovative enough one can improvise by simply hold the fan to the heat sink with copper wire in case only one bracket is broken. The fan only requires to be on the heat sink to remove heat from the processor. Otherwise the fan & heat sink as one sealed unit only. Else try out the junk yard and see if you can hunt for one where PC's are dumped !

However if you want your PC to last for 2-3 yrs more, trouble-free, then my recommendation would be to replace the fan+heat sink unit, 'cos if the heat conducting paste between the processor & heat sink, if disturbed cannot be replaced to its original capacity & the processor will overheat and the PC will auto shut down repeatedly, till the processor is damaged permanently! .............................sodeep

It sounds like the fan bearing is shot, I'd recomend not using the computer until fan is replaced.
yes it is possible to replace the fan, i would recomend that you replace it with an aftermarket cooler. all you need is what kind of CPU you have, then find out what kind of socket it is, from there you can find the cooler you would like.

There is usually a jumper on the board somewhere around the battery. You have to either move that jumper to adjacent pins or remove it to clear passwords.

Okay first things first, I don't recognize what your asking, that isn't a normal name for a CPU. Looks like a factory number/ID... So, to find your actual CPU: Tap your windows key, then type dxdiag and tap enter key. That will pull up directx configuration program and that includes what CPU you have as well as most the basic hardware info. Let me know if you still need help okay.
