Sounds like the CCD or a stuck shutter blade. Try this place: www.CamerasAndParts.com They only service Canons and they are the only place we recommend for the Canons. It's all they work on and they are about half the price of most shops, plus the work is just excellent through them.

The date and time (and a lot more) are stored with every picture in its EXIF metadata. Any photo viewing/editing program should be able to display this data. To print this data, please consult the documentation for whatever program you're using to print your pictures. Depending on the program and printer you may print the date on the image, in the margins, or on the back.

Canon europe, In this link the fifth line.

If it does not work, google canon europe and select support. Don't look for the powershot, but for the IXUS.

Hey ying1985,
There are a number of programs out there that should recover your pictures from a formatted memory card. A couple of these are CardRecovery v3.00 which cost money, or PC Inspector Smart Recovery which is free.

Sincerely,
Allan

I have had success with this... Download this camera photo recovery program called asoftech photo recovery
http://www.asoftech.com/apr/index.html

You have to use a card reader either on your computer or an external USB card reader. Put the card in the card reader, open the recovery program, then select the drive where files are deleted, then press "Start" and wait for it to do it's magic.

Try NOT connecting your camera to your computer.

The best way to download pictures from your camera to your computer involves removing the memory card from the camera and plugging it into a card reader (either built-in to the computer or connected via USB or FireWire). This is likely to be faster than connecting the camera to the computer, and won't run down your camera's batteries.

Once the card is plugged in, it will appear to your computer as a removable drive. You can use the operating system's drag&drop facility to copy pictures from the card to the computer's hard drive, the same way you copy any other files. Or you can use any photo cataloging program such as Picasa.

I'd stay away from some of the cheaper displays for these cameras. If you want to get the part and have it installed right or even do it yourself, try either www.camerasandparts.com or Canon themselves. They both have the part and both do the service, www.camerasandparts.com deals with the parts and service exclusively on the Canon Powershots, they are about half of what Canon wants for the service on these. Both places do very good work, it's just a little more expensive going directly with Canon.

Make sure you use a program that recognizes videos.
iPhoto is for still photos. It does not recognize videos. Try iMovie instead.

Lens errors are fairly common. Usually it's sand or grit interfering with the lens extension mechanism. Or the camera's been dropped with the lens extended. Or the camera has been powered on, but the lens had been blocked preventing its extension. Or the battery ran down with the lens extended ... Here are some troubleshooting steps that you can try that may (or may not) correct it. They only seem to work for less than 40% of the lens errors, but if the camera is out of warranty (or repair cost approaches that of the camera), they're worth that try. Some of the later steps do involve some risk to the camera, so carefully weigh your options before deciding to conduct them:

You can convert photos to black-and-white or add other color effects by adding My Colors effects. Full details are in the "Adding My Colors Effects" section of the Advanced Guide (page 117 in my copy). If you need a manual, you can download it from the manufacturer's web site at

On the rear of the camera there is a circular set of buttons with Func. Set in the middle. With the camera on picture taking mode press the bottom button in that circle to cycle between single shot, continuous shot, 10 sec. timer, two second timer, and custom timer. For more detailed info check this link from the canon website:
