Top 20 Amerock 3 Ring Knobs - BP1586 Questions & Answers

f the screw head is stripped you will have to replace the knob and screw. Try holding the screw head and turn the handle is its a single knob. Otherwise use a hacksaw or dremel tool and cut about 3/8" away from the door surface, once you cut through you can use a small punch to push the screw through the door then pliers to pull it out. Alternately you could use a dremel tool and carefully grind the head of the screw down until you can brake the head off and pull the handle and screw out through the front.

I know I don't need to mention that knobs with an emergency release inside the house are wonderful things. Many function by sliding a nail into a hole in the middle of the door knob, others use the push/turn technique.

First thing to try is pushing the door knob in and then pulling it out while turning it as far as you can in both directions. If a part is worn out or misaligned, sometimes this is just enough to do the trick. If that doesn't work:

Now that the pins are out of the hinges, try working with another person if you can. Don't concentrate all of your efforts on the latch if you haven't been able to access it because of the moldings. Hinges get sticky and may need a good nudge.

Have one person push the door up from the bottom or top with a small pry bar or large screw driver. While this is happening, watch the hinges. They fit together like a jig saw puzzle, there should be play and they will loosen up a bit now. Now you will have an idea of the best way to try this.

Remember, the hinge side is no longer attached, so caution is in order. If you are working from a side without molding, pull out from the bottom and/or top while lifting gently with the pry bar. You can sometimes use a fulcrum and step on the pry bar if you are alone.

If molding is blocking your side, try pushing the hinge side inward. If that doesn't work, Using the pry bar, go to the bottom corner on the door knob side and tilt the door toward the opposite corner as much as possible.

If you can, jam something as sturdy as possible (screwdrivers)above and below where the latch is. With another screwdriver of tool, push directly into the latch and push the handle of what you are using in the direction opposite the door. Give it a good yank.

Try to be observant and creative while doing this. You are looking to try and squeeze out just a little more space. Use any area where you see play. Underneath, along side, up top, where ever.

There will undoubted be some damage to the wood or paint, remove the molding piece alongside the latch. It will be affordable to replace if you are a diy person.

For the others that commented, parts inside get worn and as mentioned above, the shaft has to be aligned correctly. If not, you run into problems like the latch not fully engaging.

Cutting the knob off will be a bit difficult. Even when that is done, it may be difficult to remove the latch and metal burrs are razor sharp. I think I would call a handyman before attempting that. Good luck all.

youve probably solved the problem by now but i would use a spanner or molegrips on the spindle to turn it, fitting a new one would have fitting instructions included.

Most of the time all you need to do is swap the two handles and flip the latch over so the angled part of the latch is on the other side, so it will self latch when you close the door.

If you can take the lock off the door push a small metal piece inside the lock from the back to push out the broken key. If unable to take it off, get an old windshield wiper, remove the stainless steel supports from the wiper (long skinny piece of metalt holding rubber blades in place). Grind or file an angled tooth into the end of one. Insert into lock (tooth down) so it catches on the teeht of ghe broken key, pull rod and key out.

You will have to carefully drill them out. Start with a small bit and slowly work up to a bigger one as you go once most of the head is drilled out the latch should pull off, you can then use vice grips to unscrew the remaing part of the screws.

If you want to clean or polish your copper cabinet hardware, there are few way to go, like cabinet hardware (Knobs & Pulls) which you believe are copper it's really zinc casting with copper plated.on which is applied a thin coat of polish to prevent oxidation, and that plate about two atoms wide and any sort of a harsh or chemical clean on it will wipe out it.

The finest thing you can follow is to take a jewelry polishing rag and go over the Cabinet hardware a bit. However, I don't see that it is offensive to have a copper pull that has turned color and has a "patina" on it. That is sometimes viewed as beneficial in decorating.
The zinc pulls with copper plating are made so after few years replaced with new pulls.

I am not a heating expert so take this with a grain of salt.
IMHO, a sooty burning oil burner (which kerosene is used in) is due to too much fuel or too little air. An oil burner consumes oxygen, therefore ventilation is required. A direct vent supplies makeup air and provides and exhaust path. Kerosene comes in a couple of different grades. K2 is generally used for heating.
SO, insure you have the correct type kerosene. Inspect your direct vent to insure it is drawing in air from the outside easily. Insure your control is not supplying too much kerosene.
The flame should not be red - that is a definite indication of too little air/too much fuel. If it is very blue, it may get blown out. Your manual should show you the perfect flame color.
If you are smelling kerosene, that would be a good indicator that something is wrong with your direct vent. Any leak between the exhaust section and the makeup air section will cause this. Reinstall the vent and insure the directions are followed. Moving the vent after installation is perfect for breaking the seals and creating the problem. Have you had any earthquakes lately?
