There are five shiny screws and one black one located behind the plastic front label (the part that has the markings for the input levels and switches), plus three behind the serial number label, inside the handle part you open with the allen key. This removes the front panel, then, there are about twelve screws around the plastic casing, attaching the casing to the inner metal encasing.

There are three screws behind the foam strip on the metal casing, which attach a heavy duty metal strip to the inner casing... the rest are obvious.

This is how to deconstruct the casing in the event that something is rattling inside.

Keep in mind, if you still have a warranty on your MBOX 2, you won't anymore once you deconstruct it. So I don't advise it unless your device is well past warranty.

Though, if something is indeed rattling inside, I'm sure that's a breach of warranty conditions anyway.
You had best check on that first, but you might end up taking her apart anyway.

Hello,

Thanks for contacting Fixya.com

If I understood the issue correct the usb port is not recognised and and therefore shows some messages in it. I would request you to please install the drivers for winxp once again from the bellow mentioned link:

Pro Tools and its hardware are very intricately linked. You cannot run one without the other (at least under normal circumstances). So, you will have to instal pro Tools, even if you never plan to use it, in order to get the MBox drivers installed. Then, whether or not you will be able to use it is another story. Digi hardware is only designed to work with Pro Tools. There are some workarounds available, though. More info here: http://www.sweetwater.com/sweetcare/...er&-find=Go%21

Good Luck and God Bless

Hi,

Changing U.S.B port is a way to make sure that there is no Hardware Problem with the PC. It has no link with the quality of the sound.

* Make sure that the wires are not loose. Any loose wire would cause a sound problem.

* Make sure that the device is far away from electrical appliances such as Refrigerator,T.V etc. There ways might result in electrical disturbance.

Now,

If you are able to get the sound when you switch to the front U.S.B , that's Great.Unless,

1. shut down computer
2. unplugged all usb cables except keyboard/mouse
3. restarted computer
4. re-plugged usb cable from computer to mbox
5. opened protools session

Again , Use the U.S.B port on the back of the computer.

Note - I am taking into consideration that the jack is fine.

THERE IS A SERIOUS NOTE FROM ALL THE SELLERS TO THE CUSTOMERS :-

When they plug in the Mbox 2 PRO via a firewire cable, to their computer.. the LEDs on the Mbox 2 PRO do not light up. They automatically assume that the unit is dead (and rightly so) However, this is not the case.

The unit is active, but the drivers have not been loaded yet, so the LED does not light up. Here are some of the steps recommended by Digidesign to fix this:

"First spot to check: Device Manager (Windows) or Preferences (Mac) Windows will show it as "MBox 2 Pro", but the "?" accros it shows: device recognized, but no drivers installed - Good! (if you have your audio notifications on, it'll sound the usual "knock knock, I'm here" to indicate the adding of a device) On the Mac, you will gain access via the MBox 2 Pro preference on the very bottom of the preference window - Good!

Next thing to do: Install the supplied PT LE version, and connect the MB2P via the supplied FW cable (2 out of 3 of the MB2P we got back have our FW cable still originally shrink-wrapped in the box - the one that has the reported "pop" when plugging it in is one of them....no comment)

After the installation, in Windows you might either update the drivers manually, or simply disconnect/re-connect the MB2P.

Still no LED activity? Launch Pro Tools. It very likely will prompt you with a "downloading firmware" dialog. And this is the moment: during download, the MB2P goes "blank" (no LED would indicate any download in progress). At this point, it's likely that some customers might disconnect it ("hey, it hang during firmware download") - and at this very moment, the bootloader file is broken. Please ensure that you enquire with your customers what where the steps they attempted, did the unit "hang up" during download?

Uh, what to do now? If you're on a Mac, you'll need a jumpstart by a friendly Windows CPU. Any windows CPU with a FW connection will do. (hook it up, it's likely that windows will see an MB2P in the device manager. If you can install PT LE and fire it up, it'll download the firmware/bootloader, and you're good to go again)

If you're on a PC, you're safe (this time), just re-initiate the download, this time DON'T disconnect it...let PT start up, and start working. So, it's unlikely we'll hear a lot from PC users...."

Some customers return the Mbox 2 PRO to us, when we connect it to our test system (Mac Book Pro) the LEDs start up right away. If the steps above don't work, return it to us - we will hook it up to our system, update the firmware and return it to you (plus shipping costs of course, unless you plaon on driving in and dropping it off and picking it up!)

READ THE ABOVE ONE.

Make sure that your system is not "DEAD". If that's the case, KINDLY RETURN/REPLACE IT.

Hope i helped you.

DO RATE THE SOLUTION.

Thanks for using "Fixya".

Your Windows System Sounds and sounds from other programs are output from the computers preinstalled soundcard. When you use a professional sound card i.e Mbox (ASIO) you can search google for an ASIO player or plugins for Real Player (or WinAmp or Windows Media Player etc) that allow you to use as the output device.

It won't be accessible from the inside. You got to get it out the way it went in.
A screw extractor might work, but it might damge the jack. You could try a large wooden matchstick, jam the wood end (duh) into the opening. While slowly rotating the stick, try to pull it out. If any part of the center is protruding, use a small needle nose plier to extract it.

I have the same problem. Usually it will work when I reboot the computer. The trick is once you get the mbox working with the phantom power on, is to not turn off the phantom power during your session; the duration in which you use the mbox at that given time before shutting it down. You can switch the phantom off and it won't shut off, but if you press it back on, it may and for me more than half of the time it does shut off. I have a new problem with my mbox. I can't hear play back, even though I can hear sound from either input. Any suggestions?

Hi

Few symptoms that your firewire is not working would be that the FireWire devices would intermittently drop off the bus. Another symptom was the Mac telling you that you had disconnected a FW drive (when you had not). Sometimes the problem manifested itself within the first two minutes of use; other times after 40 minutes. It first happened after the 10.2.6 update so you would be trying to get reinstalled the Combo updater (no improvement), and then after you did a clean install on another drive with 10.2.4 (same problems). Booting into single-user mode, you will see the following message appearing (all on one line):

IOFireWireSBP2Login::fetchAgentWriteComplete fetch
agent write failed! Retrying

It would repeat five or six times, then pause about a minute, and then repeat again, etc. Sometimes it would appear within the first minute after boot and other times it would take 30-40 minutes until it would appear - the same frequency the problems would develop when booted to the Finder. Suspecting a bad FW port (the lower port on the motherboard), I swapped the FW devices to the upper port...and the problem disappeared.

Let us know if you have something more to know else accept the suggestion.
