A quick fix for most communication errors can be achieved by resetting the printer and/or rebooting the PC. Simply disconnect the printer from your computer (if USB connected)> reboot your pc > unplug and re-plug the printer into the power source to reset it. When the printer turns on, reconnect it to your computer (if USB connected). Then try to print again once the computer fully recognizes the USB connection or when the WiFi light on the printer turns solid green (if WiFi connected.).

If that doesn't help, try the steps below:

  1. Disconnect the USB cable connecting the printer from your computer.
  2. On your computer, go to Control Panel > Printers and Faxes.
  3. Delete the Lexmark print object.
  4. Reboot computer.
  5. Re-brick your printer by pulling out the power supply - black box where the power cord is plugged into on the back of the printer, and re-plug after 30 seconds.
  6. When the printer turns on, reconnect it to the computer.
  7. Wait until your computer fully recognizes the USB connection. To check, go to Control Panel > Printers and Faxes. If you see a new Lexmark print object in the list, try to print a document to verify that the problem is fixed.

You may also try to update your printer driver by visiting the Lexmark website at http://bit.ly/nJ7AgN. Select your operating system, download and execute the file.

It could be that the computer that you're using has some restrictions to guest users or non-Admin users. Try to ask the owner or the Admin for the security settings or the restriction settings to allow you to make or create files.
I hope this helps.

1.Remove the protective tape from the cartridges: With the printer powered on, open the front cover of the printer. The cartridge carrier should move to the middle.Remove the cartridge(s) from the printer.Look on the underside of the cartridge(s). If there is yellow tape and/or transparent blue tape there, remove it. 2.Clean the cartridge nozzles: Go to the Lexmark Control Program or Solution Center and run the Clean print nozzle test.Examine the diagonal lines above and below the solid horizontal lines. These diagonal lines should be solid from left to right, with no gaps.If there are gaps in the lines, you could run the Clean Print Nozzle page a few more times to try and clear it up . 3.Reset the ink levels: Lexmark printer cartridges do not have ink sensors. The levels of ink are produced by a mathematical calculation of ink drops and page counts. The printer stores this information. Ink levels can be reset by "telling" the printer that you have installed a new ink cartridge or by reinstalling the printer drivers. Download and install the printer's driver: Windows 32-bit
Windows 64-bit

Make sure the fax software is installed on the other computer. Use the installation disc that came with your printer to install the software. Also, your computer should be connected to a phone line. A phone connection is required for faxing to function.

Apparently this particular printer is no longer on the market. The 1270 is listed and appears to be the same printer except it's white instead of black. The cartridges listed for that printer arelexmark 16, 17, 26, or 27.

Hope that helps.
