The cracked screen means you need to change the screen but since this unit is somewhat water tight the damage done is less. But it will be good to have the unit dried properly , the circuit board cleaned of any moisture or dirt and the display changed. The water or dirt logging is making the button inactive and hence the cleaning must be done without delay.

Try a hard reset:
Press and hold the Center button, and the Menu button for ten seconds.
This should force a reset, and show you the Apple logo for a few seconds, while it reboots.

that is not a problem follow the steps below. If you cannot remember the passcode, you will need to restore your device using the computer with
which you last synced it. This allows you to reset your passcode and resync the data from the
device (or restore from a backup). If you restore on a different computer that was never synced
with the device, you will be able to unlock the device for use and remove the passcode, but your
data will not be present Follow the steps that i have outlined below. If this does not completely help your situation
please let me know and i will be glad to assist you. According to Apple, if you have forgotten the code, you can unlock the IPod by doing the
following: 1 If you can't unlock IPod using either [the code or connecting it to the computer you use to
manage its songs. . . Plug the iPod USB cable into the bottom of the iPod Nano. 2 Plug the other end of the iPod USB cable into a free USB port on a Mac or PC computer. 3 Open the iTunes application by clicking on the Dock icon on a Mac or using the Start menu on a
PC. 4 Click on the name of your iPod Nano under the "Devices" list in the iTunes window. 5 Click on the "Sync" button to establish a connection between your iPod and the computer. 6 Click on the eject symbol next to your iPod's name after the syncing process has finished. 7 Unplug your iPod Nano. The device will be unlocked and you will be able to access all normal
features again. if that does not work you can restore your iPod to factory settings using iPod Updater. Please
note that this will erase all data on your iPod. Afterwards, you can add your music and data back to your iPod. If you want to change the primary computer that your IPod is associated with, do this: 1. Restore your iPod. WARNING: The restore process cannot be undone. All of your songs and files will be deleted. Always make a backup of your important data. 2. Connect your iPod to the computer that you want to be the primary computer. 3. Open iTunes and synchronize. Apple also notes that company "representatives cannot unlock an iPod if you forget your
combination. If you can't unlock your iPod and you don't have access to the primary computer,
your only option is to restore the IPod, which will erase all music and data." If you need further assistance please feel free to follow up with a comment and i will be here to

When the IPod is connected to the computer, it also charges the battery.
Leave the IPod connected to the computer for several hours so it can charge the IPod's battery.
When you disconnect the IPod after several hours and it still turns off, then the IPod's battery is dead and needs to be replaced.

ok so thats what exactly what happened to me same i pod ... everything except for the circles what u need to do is bring it to the apple store and tell them what happened and the light might have eather burned out, the water got into it and shorted out, or it got disconnected when it was bouncing arround in the washer and/or dryer. so they should be able to fix it and get out the spots from cleaning it when they take it appart.
