This problem is due to the memory card not containing the TomTom application or map. To update the application onto the memory card, Connect the device to your computer. Open the TomTom Home application. Click on 'Update My Device'. This should then install the application onto the SD card. Alternativly, you could perform all the steps above without the SD card in the device, this will install the application onto the internal memory. Note: you may also need to install your maps, voices, etc after you update.

It is likely that the SD card (data) is corrupted. I'm assuming that it had previously worked properly.
Have you tried running a (fix) disk utility against your (internal disk or SD card) storage for the GPS ?
For instance, connect the GPS to your PC (Windows), and select (highlight) the (internal) "disk" on the GPS device. Under File - Properties, go to the Tools (tab) and run the "Error-Checking" option.
This utility may fix your data error.
If not, consider doing a restore (from backup) of your GPS disk storage.

In Map view tap anywhere near the center of the screen. A new screen is displayed. On that screen locate the Change Preferences icon, tap it. Press the right pointing arrow (may have to tap 6 or 7 times) until you find the time and Date icon. Tap it and configure. You can set the clock manually or let it synchronize itself with the GPS signal.

I would contact TomTom customer service and request a replacement. That should be an inexpensive replacement cost. Otherwise you can look search the web for an ISO copy of the disk that someone has made and burn that to a blank CD or DVD. I'd just contact TOMTOM customer support.

You could try to perform a "soft reset" by disconnecting your device from a charger or USB-cable. Then you keep pressing the power button until you hear the TomTom startup sound. Then release the power button and let the device startup. If you're problem still is not solved, you could try to update the firmware of the GPS by installing MyTomTom on your computer. You need to download and install the program, make an account, and if you connect the GPS with a USB cable to your computer, you can update the device software. Never disconnect your GPS while the software is writing data to your GPS. If your GPS came with lifetime map updates the software will also update the mapa data which can take up to three hours. If these tips don't work, I suggest calling the TomTom support line, or send in the GPS for repair.

The spontaneous poweron is a bug in app 8.01. Models with that app tuen themselves on exactly 1 week after they've been turned off. A workaround is to hold the power button forever until you see a black sceen with debug writing on it. Then shut it off and it should stay off.

If you go to the tomtom website select support and enter the question in the search area "cannot get signal" it will offer a complete walk through of testing the device to see where the issue lies. Basically in the menu there is a screen showing the satelites being received or if none are being received look in the corner for a spinning disc symbol. If the disc is not spinning then there is a problem with the device, reinstalling the application program may help but follow all instruction from web site ensuring you do a backup first. Also check that you have not accidentally selected Flight Mode from the menu as this turns off satelite function as it is like a mobile phone on a plane. Ensure flight mode is off.

Search tomtom website and download the latest postcode file (it ends .zip) and using windows copy this file to your device and it should work using post codes again. Ensure the file retains the .zip extension as it is not a zip file as one would know a zip file in normal computing to be a compressed file but .zip for the american name for a postcode being a zip code. I cannot remember if this file is copied to the main part of the tomtom or the map so try main part first.
