You should take your computer into an authorized IBM repair depot. Do you live in Canada? CompuFirm can assist you, we have repair depots all over canada visit www.compufirm.net to view our locations.
I would take it in for repair quick because the fan not working could cause system failure.

do not look at the free scan for drivers ..your driver is a little down the page just download and run ...ya might also keep it so you never have to do this again ...( keep it in a different partition than C ...so if you ever format C partition ..you will still have the driver )
Good luck ...and rate me please :P !
have a great day !

Try to restart your laptop, when you see the IBM Thinkpad logo press F8 several times until it gives you a black screen menu with some option. Try the "use last known good configuration" first and see if it works, otherwise try to access in safe mode. Once you're in, try a system restore, and bring the computer back to a date you think it should work.
To access System restore you go unser start - programs - accessories - system tools.
Good luck

Uninstall the driver and restart your computer. you should have the driver on the c drive and it will reinstall itself. if not go to the mfg's site and get a new driver. sometimes when you install a new program it will change your registry and policies. also you can go to drivermax.com (a no strings attached free driver upgrade service) and get the upgrade there. The upside to drivermax is it will show upgrades for all drivers on your pc.

For now, just use a small paperclip and bend it out so you can push it in the tiny hole to manually open the drive. You might try reloading the drivers for it after that.
