Lexmark X6570 InkJet Printer - Answered Questions & Fixed issues

Yes, the black cartridge could very well be the issue. In fact, I think it's likely.

I have a Lexmark X6570 All In One Wi-Fi model. Just had the problem where I went to print and received an error message saying that the cover was open (when it wasn't). I noticed that the back right hand corner had slightly popped out of place for no apparent reason. Tried to pus it back into place with no luck.

Here's what happened and how to fix it:
There are two plastic hinges at the back of the 6500 series printers that allow the top cover to open for access to the ink cartridge carriage. The lower ends of the hinges are cylindrical shaped and each contains a very stiff steel spring inside. They are designed to prop the cover of the printer up and hold it open when opened. As the plastic material ages, it may weaken and the tension of the internal spring may break the round end of the hinge off. This causes the printer cover to not fully close (even though it may appear so). There is a switch in the main printer body that detects when the top cover it open (even partially), and the printer won't work in this condition.

To fix this, open the top cover and carefully disconnect the 3 wire harnesses and the ribbon cable that run from the top cover to the base of the printer. Then remove the 'paper jam' hatch cover from the back of the printer. There are two phillips screws on the back panel of the pinter (one is located behind the paper jam hatch cover). Remove these screws (they secure the plastic hinges in place). You should now be able to lift the complete top cover/ scanner table assembly off the rest of the printer. Look for a steel spring about 3 inches long...remove this along with the round base of the hinge which may have broken off and remained down inside the printer. Glue this piece back onto the end of the hinge, but leave the spring out. Now reassemble the printer in the reverse order of disassembly and you should be good to go. Note that the top cover or the printer will not stay propped open on it's own with the spring removed, but this is not really an issue.

I am not sure if new replacement hinges are readily available from Lexmark or other sources.

Are you still able to print/scan/copy? If so, the LCD could be defective. Try to unplug the power of the printer for about 30 seconds then plug it back in.

If it doesn't help, them the LCD could be defective.

look where you load the paper..there should be 1 or 2 freed rollers.
With the unit OFF use a cotton swab dipped in alcahol to clean them. When they get dirty, they slip.

Loading envelopesYou can load up to 10 envelopes at a time.
Warning: Do not use envelopes that have metal clasps, string ties, or metal folding bars.

1 Load envelopes in the center of the paper support with the stamp location in the upper left corner.
2 Make sure:
• The print side of the envelopes faces you.
• The envelopes are designed for use with inkjet printers.
• The paper guides rest against the edges of the envelopes.

Notes:
• Do not load envelopes with holes, perforations, cutouts, or deep embossing.
• Do not use envelopes that have exposed flap adhesive.
• Envelopes require more drying time. Remove each envelope as it exits, and allow it to dry to avoid ink smudging.

The error could be due to the cartridges not properly installed on your printer. Try to open the printer cover and remove the cartridges > close the printer cover > re-brick your printer by pulling out the power supply - the black box where the power cord is plugged into. Re-plug after 30 seconds. > when the printer turns on, reinsert the cartridges.
Try to print again to verify that the problem is fixed.

You may need to reset the printer's wireless network adapter first before re-installing the printer driver. Here's How to Reset the Network Settings on the X6570 Series AIO Inkjet Printer.
Also, the printer driver cjb6500en is for 32-bit operating systems. Please visit the Lexmark website at http://bit.ly/Iwhh8m to download and install the correct printer driver for a Windows 7 64-bit ( cjq6500en.exe ). Simply follow the instructions on your computer screen to complete the installation.

Try lifting the main cover as if to access the ink cartridges. Make sure that a) the printer is switched on, and b) the ink cartridge carrier is out of the way. Right in the middle of the bay looking down onto it, you'll see a small black plastic peg not much bigger than the end of a ballpoint pen situated over a silver coloured roller. Use a small implement to push the black peg downwards. No force is necessary to do this, so if it won't push easily don't force it. Once pressed down, the printer should operate normally. I believe the small peg is a mechanical device to inform the printer that there is paper in the tray, when of course there isn't. Try it out. Let me know if it works. As I spent ages trying to fix mine and it worked for me.

It could be due to the cartridges or the encoder strip (transparent strip seated behind the cartridge carrier) has gotten loose from its position. Please follow the steps below to identify and fix the problem:

  1. Open the printer cover and remove the cartridges. Note: If the carrier does not automatically move to the center, turn off the printer or unplug the printer from the power source and then slide the carrier to the center for the loading position.
  2. Check the encoder strip and make sure it is secured in its place.
  3. Close the printer cover.
  4. Re-brick your printer. Pull out the power supply (black box where the power cord is plugged in at the back of the printer) and put it back after 30 seconds.
  5. When the printer turns on, reinsert one cartridge first. Close the printer cover and check for any errors.
  6. If no error appears, reinsert the other cartridge. Close the printer cover.
  7. Replace whichever cartridge is causing the error to appear with a new cartridge.
  8. If no error appears, try to print a document again to verify that the problem is fixed.

Problem: Carrier not moving to the loading position

If you're having trouble with the cartridge carrier not moving automatically to its loading position (to install/replace cartridges) even when the printer is on and the cover is open, please follow the steps below:

  1. Unplug the printer from the power source.
  2. With the printer cover open, hold the solid white strip that connects from the carrier assembly to the ink cartridge carrier and gently slide the carrier to the center of the printer.
  3. Open the latch and remove the used cartridges.
  4. Load the new cartridges. Close the latch and then the printer cover.
  5. Re-plug the printer to the power source.
  6. After going through the startup process, try to print a document to verify that the cartridges are working and installed properly.
