After a paper jam, I took the paper out and installed the cartridge back, but the machine keep making a loud noise when I close the right cover and showing "install cartridge" on the screen. I did the steps you said but the problems remained unsolved. I had this problem before and I was able to resolve just by re install the cartridge or open and close the right cover to reset it. However, this time on top of the error message, there is a loud noise when I open and close the right cover and the message would not go away --> machine is not working!!

  • pcs99 Aug 23, 2011

it did not work. As soon as I plug the power cord on it started to make the loud noise again. I tried to re-install the cartridge, the message still show and it was the same. Any other suggestion? thanks

  • pcs99 Aug 23, 2011

They recommended that and I did it, still didn't help. any other solution?

  • pcs99 Aug 23, 2011

I don't think it is the cartridge. I checked what you recommended and it didn't help. Even when I plugged the power cord in without the cartridge the machine still make the same noise about 5 seconds. And when I tried to put the cartridge in, it still showed the message. I have tried it a few dozen times.

This problem is seen in many color printers.
This is really irritating to handle and ultimately yields to carriage head fault.
Thus you need to handle this a bit carefully.
1)Switch off the printer and let it for 5 - 10 mins. 2)Now replace the cartridge with the new yellow cartridge
Now switch on the printer.
If problem persists repeat the steps 3-4 times.
Replace the new toner with old cartridge that the printer can detect and then switch off the printer.
Follow the above mentioned steps again.
Try this for 3-4 times.

Welcome to Fixya

Try opening the right door and close it again. That is the door that you open when you replace the cartridge. If still will not work, replace the cartridge with a known good cartridge - preferably a new (not refilled or recycled) one.

Thank you for using Fixya!

check the ground tab. open your printer cartridge and check the right side where is the drum ground position. on top there is a black plastic guide. put it to the right position if it is not in the right place.

Hi,

For your problem do the following

Turn the copier off; disconnect the USB cable from the rear of the copier. Remove the cartridges from the product.

Wait for the 'Insert Cartridges ' message to display on the control panel.

Disconnect the power cord from the back of the product.

Wait 60 seconds.

Reconnect the power cord. If the product does not automatically turn on, press the Power button. Reinsert the cartridges, and then close any open doors on the product.

Then reconnect the USB cable to the rear of the product, and then try printing again.

Use original cartridge always. Compatible duplicate cartridges can make this hazard.

Reset your printer, remove all pending print job from control panel. It will solve your problem.

If the LCD displays [INSTALL CARTRIDGE], reset the machine by opening the right cover and then closing it.

Try a hard reset of the printer then, in case the error message is merely sticking or a remnant of a previous status, that the hard reset might clear...:

Turn the printer OFF, when it is on, by suddenly and sharply unplugging it from the power source.
Also unplug it from the computer!
Leave it that way for 10 minutes.
Plug it back in.
Turn it on if it didn't turn itself on. Wait for it to initialize.
Try the printer again.

It is possible that a sensor switch (of the type that is pushed down or pushed aside when paper is present in the paper path) is jammed or fouled or otherwise indicating incorrectly. A search of the paper path for such a stuck switch (in the position that it would ordinarily occupy only if paper were passing through the paper path) is your last resort in a case like this, before either having the printer serviced, or replaced and recycled (or, if less than a year old, returned to Canon under their standard one-year warranty terms for all the printers they sell. Call 1-800-OK-CANON to start this process).

As for recycling the printer, if you decide to get rid of it: usa.canonwebapp/wcs/stores/

...is the page from which you can order the printer recycled... go to
Printers and All-in-ones, then go to Laser printers, and select the ImageClass D320, then enter your serial number, etc.

Hope this helps.

Hello,
E100 is error for laser unit.
Probably the jam occured because fault on laser unit. To fix error you need to reconnect all connectors of laser unit, or in worst case replace laser unit completly.

How do you take out a paper jam canon ImageCLASS D320?

First you have to know the position of the paper that has jamed.
the cardinal thing to do is to loosen and open doors that must be opened in order to have a clear view of the paper.
How to open see the marks on the machine. Mainly the paper jams between the drum and the fuser, so make sure you see any green nobs meant for seperating the presssure roller and the upper roller so that the paper is free to move out in case it jamed between the fixing rollers.
See the manual on how to remove paper jams.

The screen reads paper jam error, but there is no visible paper jam and when turned on a grinding noise occurs

Most likely, there is a paper jam in the fuser unit....which is stalling the fuser rollers, thus causing grinding noise (accordian or fan folded jam)

Getting LCD Error: Toner not set Insert Toner

Sometimes what causes the problem is the black cartridge guide on the inside rear of the machine. It comes loose and so when you put your cartridge in it does not line up with the contacts properly. The parts cannot be ordered seperately. It comes with the whole rear assembly. The part # for it is HM1-0244

PAPER JAM

laser printers dont use ink.
you will have to check the sensors. first the one where you put the media (paper) then check the registry one (remove the cartridge and you should see it) then the fixing on, from the back it has a small cover you can open an dthen a pair of green coloured levers to remove any jammed paper in fixing (the hot ***'y) then check the delivery sensor right where normally you see the page printed out and coming your way. there should not be any media remains anywhere. also if you copier is dirty it may also be causing this. try to clean it with compressed air.
