Question about Zebra TLP 2844-Z Thermal Label Printer

1 Answer

Hi I am printing barcode labels on a Zebra Tlp2844-Z. I can print resident barcodes in passthrough mode using the old Zebra driver (1.0.0.43) but the barcode does not print using the ZDesigner driver (2.6.59). I have enabled Passthrough mode and send the following : ${^FO40,112^BEN,64,Y,N^FD9780643065475^FS}$ in a text box control on an MS Access report. This works on the old driver. Everything works using the new Driver except the barcode is blank. I have to use the new driver to as it is required for Windows 7. However the new driver it does not work correctly on either Win7 or Win XP when I send passthrough commands. When I print via the old driver everything works. Change to the ZDesigner driver and the barcode is blank. So everything is exactly the same - printer, code, operating system. Only the driver is changed Any ideas why this might be happening? Thanks

Have you tried creating the barcode / label using the ZDesigner software? It is available free on their website and I'm sure you'll find it easy to use. Hope this helps!

Zebra 105SE printer will print text and images just fine, but will not print bar codes from any software including Bartender or TechnoRiverStudio. If i export the label as an image I can print it just...

Bartender is a pretty good label software package - strange that you're having problems with a barcode. Are you by any chance trying to print a 2D barcode such as Datamatrix ? If that's true, then the problem is that the datamatrix barcode is not a resident barcode in the firmware version of that printer which is an older model. There should be a choice in bartender, in the properties of the barcode field that allows you to send the barcode as an image or graphic. The barcode will then print.

If you're trying to print a linear barcode (C39 or C128 or UPC for example) and it they won't print with the steps you have taken, then something is definetly wrong. Another option would be to take your label format and print-to-file instead of print-to-printer. There should be an option on the print screen for this. By then opening the file, the ZPL (Zebra's programming language) can then be examined to see exactly what is being sent to the printer.

Hope this helps !

The TLP2844 can print from any windows application providing the application can use a windows printer driver.
The page size oof the .pdf needs to be the same size as the physical label size.

TLP2844 won't print

Hi David,

Default the printer so you have a green light.
Print a configuration label so you have the printer's settings.

Check the document you are trying to print.
If your "normal document" is using PCL, it won't print because you aren't speaking the printer's language.
Make sure you are using a Zebra driver and that the label/media settings match your printer. Look at your direct thermal/thermal transfer setting and your media length setting -- especially continuous vs. non-continuous.

OS X 10.5.2 and above have built-in ZPL and EPL drivers. Plug the printer in to USB, go to System Preferences > Print & Fax, click + , and choose the Zebra driver. For the LP2844 you choose the EPL2 driver.

Zebra TLP2844 does not print the barcode label

Can you print the barcode using the software that come with the printer. Zebra TLP2844 come with basic Designer software. Test whether it's printing the barcode or not.

IF it prints the barcode via its software, then you might be having barcode font problem between your application/os and the printer.

TLP 2844 won't print barcodes

The printer is in line mode. Do the following to take it out of line mode:
Turn printer power off.
Hold the feed button while turning printer power on.
When the light starts flashing, release the feed button.
When the light starts flashing again, press and hold the feed button.
When the light turns steady amber, release the feed button.
When the light turns steady green, the mode is changed.
Verify the mode by printing and inspecting a status report.

This requires good timing and may take several tries. You'll know it worked if no labels are reeled out after you're done.

Zebra TLP 2844 Controlling the font size w/iSeries??

Hi Burgymon,

The font that is used under the barcode will use the last font properties described prior to the barcode in the output. You may want to suppress the human readable option and create a separate text field to display the text version of the barcode contents.
